Losing suu sub 300 rpi was cool but I can't imagine losing sac too. We could move up a bit in rpi if the hornets moved up

Things have changed though. And Berman is probably more knowledgeable than most on football. The general public does not have that same awareness. Shoot, most students from out of state take a season or two to just appreciate what UM football is on its own. FCS isn't what it used to be.Why don’t we stay where we are. The FCS and its championship is well-known to many. I remember taking Bobby to the Ivy Football Dinner in NYC during Bobby’s first stint. Chris Berman was the MC. I intruded Bonny to Berman after the event. Berman immediately said: “Congratulations for getting to the championship game last season”.
It's the same kind of relegation that happened to Mid Tennessee State and Louisiana Tech and FIU in the C-USA. C-USA was the better conference in 2013 compared to the Sun Belt or WAC but times have since changed where they got passed by. It's relegation-by-stagnationStuck at the FCS level as opposed to moving to FBS.
Sac wouldn't be on the same level as UCLA, USC, or Cal. They'd be the same level as San Diego State and San Jose State. Those teams I think the Griz could compete with in football but across a whole athletic department it feels shaky.Exactly. Nearly triple the student body of UM as well. We can compete with, and beat schools like this when they play at our level. I highly doubt the same would be true if schools like Sac suddenly were on the same level as UCLA, USC and Cal.
Realistically Davis would probably do as well or better at the FBS level. They have over 40,000 students and an endowment of two BILLION dollars.
The main thing is who is going to pay for it? I'd have a hard time asking the state for a minimum of $10 million (new FBS entrance fee) for UM and MSU to move up, and I don't know the willingness of the booster corps to pay for that many more scholarships on an annual basis. When is UM, Seth Bodnar, Kent Haslam, and the BOR wake up. Montana is going to be a footnote in college ball if they don't move up right now. IDC who we leave behind. Bring MSU along with if we have to. Otherwise, the University will be scheduling games with Central Washington, Western Oregon, Carroll College, but they won't be playing D1 ball anymore.

When, not if.I just don't see why people are getting bent out of shape over where we fit in the FCS-FBS model as it currently exists.
In a few short years, the entire thing could (more like probably will) completely crumble and look totally different, especially if the P4 leave the NCAA.
As an example, when we were in Frisco in January, we went to multiple establishments where other local patrons, seeing us in our Griz gear, continually asked us "what we were in town for" "Is there a basketball tournament happening" "What level is the FCS". The general public in the DFW area had no clue the FCS title game was happening in their own town, nor who was playing in it. FCS football may be well known to football junkies, but it is not well known by the average football fan, or person. Can't tell you how many times I have had to give an elevator speech on Montana football, what level they play at, etc. because people just don't know.Things have changed though. To be fair if it was Northern Southeastern Illinois of the MAC and Kinky Friedman State of the Sun Belt no one would GAF either. All the TV money going to the very small number of programs at the top level is going to hurt college football everywhere below it to some degree. Sad to see unbridled greed on an institutional (non profit, lol) level that seems to contradict the alleged purpose of their existence. And in this present system the UM and peers are utterly irrelevant no matter where they end up playing. As an example, when we were in Frisco in January, we went to multiple establishments where other local patrons, seeing us in our Griz gear, continually asked us "what we were in town for" "Is there a basketball tournament happening" "What level is the FCS". This is common for anyone outside Montana. It's just difficult for Montanans -- who are siloed-- to understand it.As an example, when we were in Frisco in January, we went to multiple establishments where other local patrons, seeing us in our Griz gear, continually asked us "what we were in town for" "Is there a basketball tournament happening" "What level is the FCS". Um Cal isn't very good and I like the Griz chances of beating them now.Exactly. Nearly triple the student body of UM as well. We can compete with, and beat schools like this when they play at our level. I highly doubt the same would be true if schools like Sac suddenly were on the same level as UCLA, USC and Cal.

It is posts like this that make Griz fans look bad.Um Cal isn't very good and I like the Griz chances of beating them now.If the Griz moved up they'd attract better talent as well.
The North Dakota hockey team is far more relevant than the NDSU football team no matter how many FCS championship they have won. Drop the football team to DII and add mens hockey at the DI level. There are very few of them west of the Mississippi. We could immediately compete with ND.To be fair if it was Northern Southeastern Illinois of the MAC and Kinky Friedman State of the Sun Belt no one would GAF either. You're not wrong talking about UND hockey vs NDSU football...and maybe not even the adding Hockey part hahaha. The dropping issue depends on the next 5 years. Will FCS be a thing? FCS is partially an entity because schools had D1 BB but weren't quite there to be a big boy for FB. The "smaller schools" could compete and still be D1. Will the NCAA keep that around if there is officially 3 different D1 levels [P4 (3), G5(6), FCS]? Will the NCAA really have anything to do with the power group going forward in 5 years? If not, then surely FCS will be a thing. Once the fee increased to 5 million last year, I knew it'd be a long, steep hill to climb. I'm a move up guy, especially if the Group teams have their own playoff, as the Griz certainly could eventually compete for that. I'll say this again...I have experienced D1 bowl games. Maybe as a fan you don't like the StevieD Nutlickin bowl, but I promise you the players do. You may not want to do go Mobile Alabama for it, but they sure do. I prefer playoff for sure, and hope it eventually turns into playoff system at G5...and hope the Griz get there. The North Dakota hockey team is far more relevant than the NDSU football team no matter how many FCS championship they have won. And almost none of them were from NoDak when they were a dominant program. All Canadians in the heyday. Didn't have HS hockey in NoDak until the 70's. My brother played for Minot, his coach ended up coaching the Gophers a couple decades later. One reason the rivalry was so intense was Minnesota vs. Canada back then. The North Dakota hockey team is far more relevant than the NDSU football team no matter how many FCS championship they have won. Alternative:The move up argument never goes away. It keeps the internet humming. So doing my part…
All we need to do is mimic Sac State:
1 Reportedly raised $35 million in one day.
2 Announced plan for brand new stadium.
3 Have our local NBA team agree to let our Bball team use their arena for Grizzly games.
4 Become the US’s 20th largest media market.
We’ll still need to increase student fees, yet do the above four items and we have a fair shot at returning to the PAC 12.
Go Griz!
How so? Please, elaborate. It is posts like this that make Griz fans look bad.
