SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State on Thursday officially announced plans to build a new multi-use football stadium that it says will "leverage its location in one of the top 20 media markets in the nation."

It is also being reported as a step in a push by those advocating for Sacramento State to join a reconstituted version of the Pac-12 Conference.

I can tell you a big factor...student fees.

In 2023 UM had $1.05 million from student fees for athletics. Kennesaw had $15.74.

In 2023 Sac St had $29.19 million in institution/government support while UM had $7.14.

The total of all 3 combining student fees & institution/government support:

UM - $8.18 million
Kennesaw - $22.14 million
Sac St - $38.73 million

Correct! It’s embarrassing what we have for both UM and MSU we’ve easily had better facilities and attendance than a lot of the G5, and MWC. This trumps almost every fcs move up for years now, but Schools like Kennesaw are moving up yearly. We need to go if they all are. They found ways to do it with less than us? Time to start forward thinking. We gonna be NAIA soon.

That does appear to be a major factor… the new president at Sac authorized an increase.

But Ut-Grizfan inadvertently brings up something for which both Kennesaw does and this proposal clearly hope to do. Kennesaw was built to also accommodate soccer… first the women’s pro team in a previous league, now where Atlanta United’s development team plays. Sacramento has Sacramento Republic in town and hope to partner. The president at Sac was instrumental in developing Snapdragon Stadium while at San Diego State and, because they did build it with soccer as a possibility, SDSU will be either the 2nd or 3rd most popular team in Snapdragon next year when the new MLS team launches.

Not that UM needs to expand your stadium, nor is soccer going to be viable in Missoula at that level. There could be some added value in having more seats at the sidelines instead of the end zones… not that I’m telling you anything you don’t already know. But there’s been a stadium building boom in larger and mid-sized cities because of soccer at more than just the top level.

TBH… it wouldn’t have been built without the help of the local school district, which does use it for high school football games. Of course it’s high school.

There are Texas school districts that build full-on arenas along with some of those bigger high school stadiums you’ve probably seen… Texas high school athletics are such a freak show.

I'm hearing the Dakota States are in play, just not the first option. The MWC Needs to expand to the Central TZ in order to rebuild its TV deal and Football only adds make the most sense. Both Dakota States would be cool leaving their basketball in the Summit.
