This is why you trust Bobby with this kind of thing.

Double-D, not that Double-D, was a very good pass rusher as were any number of other guys listed here that were ballpark 6’ something & 220-230 lbs. If they can rush the passer, it rarely matters how big they are. Of course it didn’t hurt that he was playing opposite Kroy.

In most sports, quickness and speed will win the day. I really hope it works out and he is a major contributor. 6’2” 228 is a lot more bulk than 6’6” 225 or 230. On the other hand. 6’6” arms extended can create havoc for a QB as well. Will be interesting to watch how he progresses and how he is used.

College age, I’m 6’7” & 245. Worked out ok for me but, I’d hardly support a notion that I had any bulk then. (Unlike today, when bulk is my super power). The long arms coupled with a kid who from what I can tell, plays with good leverage will be a plus. Something that hasn’t been noted is the ability to jump & get hands into passing lanes. Tall guys can make a difference there.

If he’s 6’6” and only 220 he may need to put on a few pounds to be effective at this level. 1-AA isn’t exactly big time football but it’s also several orders of magnitude from NAIA. That being said he looks like a very solid player and a good get, and with his frame he should have no problem throwing on 20-30 pounds of muscle!

I think you are right about him needing a few pounds. He better get eating, lifting and drinking a lot of protein shakes really fast. He does not have much time before the pads go on. Hopefully he gets to 230 by the end of August.

Unless he’s using something synthetic - the best you could have hoped for since the end of last season is 10-12 lbs of muscle @ best. He could gain some body weight but this kid’s game is speed & quickness off the snap. If he can rush the passer & this level, he can do it now.

Yes. Some common sense in clean muscle gains.
