Look out, Kobe: NYC girl scores 113 in HS gameAssociated Press

NEW YORK -- Hey Kobe, top this.
Epiphanny Prince of Murry Bergtraum High School scored 113 points in a game Wednesday, breaking a girls' national prep record previously held by Hall of Famer Cheryl Miller.

Prince, a 5-foot-9 senior guard, led her team to a 137-32 victory over Brandeis High School.
"After I scored 29 points in the first quarter, I didn't think much of it," Prince told The Associated Press by phone Wednesday night. "After I had 58 points at the half, and especially after having in the 80s after the third quarter, I just decided to go for it.

"It was efficient," she said. "It wasn't like I missed a whole bunch of shots. That's what made it even better." Prince, one of the nation's top high school players, is headed to Rutgers next season. Her previous high this season was 51 points for the Lady Blazers, ranked No. 2 in the nation by USA Today.

"At the half, we thought she had a chance to break the record so we just let her go," coach Ed Grezinsky said. Miller scored 105 points for Riverside Poly in California against Riverside Norte Vista in 1982. She went on to become an All-American at USC.

Two-time WNBA MVP Lisa Leslie scored 101 points in a half for Morningside High School in Inglewood, Calif., against South Torrance in 1990. South Torrance refused to play the second half. "It's an amazing thing when an individual does that," NBA star LeBron James said when told about Prince's performance. "I don't know who she is, but maybe we'll see her in the WNBA. For that matter, the NBA."

The boys' high school record is 135 points set by Danny Heater of Burnsville High School in West Virginia in 1960, according to the National High School Sports Record Book on the National Federation of State High School Associations' Web site.

If you give up that many points to a player ya might want to think about maybe putting more than one player on her. Its better to lose than to lose and have a player score over 100 points on ya.

113 points in a game is amazing. ESPN compiled a list a month or so ago listing all of the prep players who have scored 100+ points in a game. Lisa Leslie once scored 101 in the first half of a game, then the other team refused to play the 2nd half.

If a player hits 100 points in college or in the pro's then I will really think its something special. The talent level of some temas in high school is weak.

Even with the weak talent of some opponents, scoring 100 points in a game is a remarkable feat.

I say it's less impressive in the NBA where the games are an hour long and nobody plays defense.

Yes the games are longer but the talent is much greater in the NBA. There is a reason why stats in any sport goes down as they get older and move to new levels. HIgh school kids can rush for 3,000 yards and 50 touchdowns, but you'll rarely see half those totals in college and pros. If someone can score 101 in a half, then their is a great deal of talent for one player, but horrible talent on the other side.

yes and no. lisa leslie scored 101 in a half because she was 6-4, and the other teams tallest player was 6-1, and she wasn't good enough to play. if you have ever seen that highlight, it is absurd. picture any of you, playing ball against your 3 year old! seriously. she ran down, got on the block, caught the pass, turned, and laid it in. over and over again. she was literally unstoppable in that game. however, in this instance, we are talking about a guard hitting shots. we're talking little jumpers, threes, and free-throws. i dont care who you are, or who you are playing against. when was the last time that any of us playing in a rec league made 13 baskets in a row? it should be easy right? i mean, your competition is guys who never played collge ball or are washed-up college ballers. we should score a ton of points every time we play. try this. go to a gym by yourself. and just shoot around with no defense. some lay-ups, 10 footers, threes and free throws all with no defense. see how long, and how tired you are after scoring 113, all with no defense! give a little credit where credit is due! that being said, it was retarded that her coach not only left her in there to break the record, but all of his starters. :lame:
