Running Backs

When is the last time we had a better RB duo than Calhoun & Lee?

It's been a while.

I would rather this not go the way of who can do what better. Both Hill and Jensen are great athletes and capable of leading this team. Jensen is the starter now, gave a glimpse why Saturday and Hill backs him up, will do fine if needed IMO. They both have areas that one does a little better than the other, but both can throw and run.

One fact about all 3 QBs this year is that they are a class act. Never heard of any internal fighting and all 3 competed hard for the starting spot. Did everyone see Gresch and Caleb come talk to Reese as they put him in the cart? There is a photo of Hill on a knee praying for Reese as they attended to him (Can't find it know, it was on Facebook somewhere) I have also heard Jensen and Hill have become good friends. I think we are still in good hands and I'm sure when Reese is able to, he will be right there as another coach.

Back to RBs.... I think this years RBs are proving to be solid. Have been impressed with them and have several options to throw at defenses.

There isn't a specific package for Hill. Hill has the ability to run some of the zone read/option stuff already in the playbook, but there is no special package. In one long series at the end of one of the scrimmages or practices, Hill ran reps with a lot of the QB run type plays but I don't think those reps were with the first string offense. I think Jensen is every bit the athlete and running threat Hill is, did you see he first TD on Saturday? Plus he is the superior passer and has a better grasp on the system. If we bring Hill in, we basically telegraph what we are doing. I will definitely come back and admit it if I am wrong, but unless Jensen really struggles or gets injured, I do not think Hill will take a non-garbage time snap any time soon. There is a significant difference between the two and Jensen is clearly the guy now.

There is no Caleb HIll package. It's a creation of either someone's misunderstanding or their imagination

Thank You Kyle Sample!

The suggestion was brought up on eGriz and has grown by some to be a fact. Hill could absolutely do some running plays if the coaches decided to do that, but there is no Hill Package that they have spent any extra time developing outside of their regular offense.

You also missed and denied that the Griz had run a bunch of running plays in row in a scrimmage. I talked to Green about the subject.
You're right and I'm wrong. I have been maliciously denying that they ran 6 QB read options late in a scrimmage. Hill got in for one play at UW which disproves everything as well. I have also been wilfully ignoring all the articles, interviews, or film highlights of them running this package that everyone else has seem and thus references the Caleb Hill package as certain fact on here.

The point I am making then and now is this Caleb Hill package or this intent to use Hill that way as a serious regular part of the gameplan is not based on any public statement or fact for those implying it is a fact to base it on. I am not and have never said it isn't possible that they could use Hill in this way. If you want to keep having this one sided argument by changing what I meant, go right ahead.

I like how you called me sensitive but you can't seem to ever let anything go. Ever.

To get back to the RB topic, I like the way Lee is progressing. He and Calhoun compliment each other well. The ground game will get a boost in the second half of the conference season if Green recovers well from his injury.

A few more perhaps, but another QB injury puts the season in jeopardy. I don't think Gresch has the slide down just yet.

I'm not positive, but I believe any team that gets down to its third string QB pretty much has it's season on jeopardy.

2014 Ohio State made it work.

But, yes you are correct for the most part.

Using Hill for runs occasionally can help protect Jenson, which we need to be concerned about.

Huh? You are the one who brought up the topic this time (see your post above), after Sample posted, not me. That isn't consistent with your statement that I can't let it go. Seems like you can't either. It is not a one-sided discussion. You say something; then I say something. Others do at times too. Don't think I ever said it was a package, but others may have. My view is based on my observation at a scrimmage, practices, a talk with an assistant, and noticing the play early in the UW game. It was interesting to me that UM brought in a 3d team qb to run an important 3d down play in the first series at UW. Maybe that will be the only play in the non-package, since Jensen is now the qb and a better runner than Phillips. Maybe we will see him inserted again. I'm still not mad or irritated in the least, by the way. It's just a discussion on the internet.

I just love the thought of that, it will also open up more of the passing game, people will be open.

A productive running game just became even more important. Has anyone heard when they expect Green to get back to practicing?
