Cameron Rundles scored 12 points and DeLaSalle pulled away for a 61-36 victory over Totino-Grace on Wednesday in the Class 3A boys' tournament quarterfinals.

Teddy Archer added 10 points and seven rebounds for the No. 7-ranked Islanders (25-5), who outscored the Eagles 35-15 in the second half. Defensive-minded DeLaSalle held Totino-Grace to 27.3 percent shooting (6-for-22) after halftime.

Brennan Cassidy scored 12 points for the Eagles (8-21), a surprise entrant in the tournament.

DeLaSalle advances to play St. Thomas Academy in Thursday's semifinals. The Islanders beat the Cadets 67-62 in overtime in a regular season matchup Feb. 4.

I wonder if we'll see him fill in the shoes of Virgil Matthews, PG and SG...
From what I understand, he is a pure pg although I'm sure he can play sg too. Hopefully, we will be able to redshirt him. Filling Virgil's shoes is a might tall order, but Cameron has the talent to do it. :thumb:

To me, a true point guard is one of the best things to watch in sports. Watching no look and behind the back passes, the sheer frustration on an opponents face, when you know they are thinking "how the hell did he do that," the ability to pick apart defenses and see the game unravel before it happens are all abilites shared by true point guards (John Stockton and Magic Johnson come to mind). I am not wishing for this in a college player, but if this kid is anything like Brooklyn ended up being, I will be ecstatic.

rundles comes highly touted, one of the few three-star recruits we've been able to sign at montana. how come, then, he's only third-string all-metro?

Speaking of Virg, the last Sports Illustrated had him on the cover (the big collage of college players).

Looks like Rundles team won again and is in the finals.

I don't know why he would be third team all metro as this article says that he is a candidate for MN's Mr Basketball. The other two guys ahead of him must be studs.

The Metro Player of the year Bryce Webster is headed to Minnesota. Another 1st-teamer ( the kid who made the game-winning shot from his ass last year that they re-played 1000 times) is a junior this year. 3 of the 2nd-team guys were juniors too. Another first-teamer is going to Cornell and another Northern Iowa. One is undecided (see bad grades).

Rundles doesn't score enough (16ppg) to make first-teams. First-team Mpls metro-area guys are guys that we won't usually have a chance at anyways. Rundles is the first Minnesota recruit that has made the metro's 3rd team even. Easley and Pederson weren't even close to that level.

Mr. Basketball top 3 in MN are Webster, Cory Johnson from Duluth and heading to Iowa State and Braham's Isiah Dahlman, who is the all-time leading scorer in MN history and going to Michigan State. Dahlman and Rundles were team-mates last summer. Rundles won't get a sniff for Mr. Basketball in that stiff competition, but I think he's a coup for us. A true point guard, a leader, a dive-on-the-floor, lead by example general, with great athleticism.

Rundles looked good leading the Islanders to the Minnesota State 3A Championship. Waiting for the 4A championship to start. A Possible Bison recruit playing for Hopkins.

Stats are up on the link now. Rundles led his team in both scoring and rebounds. One stat that caught my eyes was 0 turnovers. That is pretty amazing for a pont guard!

DeLaSalle coach Dave Thorson likes to talk about how his team's defensive-minded personality was molded during 6 a.m. practices in the cold dead of winter.

That ferociousness was fully on display Saturday night. The No. 7 Islanders held top-ranked Duluth East to a season-low point total, winning the Class 3A state title with a 65-47 victory.

Cameron Rundles scored 18 points for the Islanders, who won their first state crown since 1999 by shutting down a break-happy Greyhounds squad that had averaged 76.5 points in its first two tournament games. Their previous low this season had been 54 points.

Cory Johnson, a 6-7 Iowa State recruit, had 17 points for Duluth East before fouling out with 3:07 left to play.

The Islanders, a defensive-minded team that improved greatly as the season wore on, knew they would have to figure out a way to slow down a Greyhounds squad that had thrived all season on the break.

Early on, the Minneapolis Catholic school managed to do that by countering the Greyhounds' speed with some quickness of their own. By racing down the court on defense, they shut down Duluth East's transition game while converting six turnovers into 11 points and a 20-13 lead with 6:40 left in the first half.

But the Islanders cooled off after that and the Greyhounds started to run, using a 12-6 run to close within 36-35 at the half. Johnson scored six points in that span.

The Greyhounds opened the second half on a 6-2 run, taking a 31-28 lead on Ryan Shea's fast-break layup.

But a four-point play then seemed to energize the Islanders. After Rundles scored on a layup, got fouled, and missed the ensuing layup, Royce White grabbed the offensive rebound and scored on a putback.

It was off to the races after that, touching off a 17-2 run that included a pair of three-pointers by Adam Bledsoe and two steals by Jamar Diggs that led to six Islanders points. It gave the Islanders a 45-33 cushion with 11:06 left to play, and they were never seriously threatened after that.

Well Rundles only made Mpls Star-Tribune's 3rd team All- Metro, yet is A.P.'s 2nd Team all-state, named after an impressive State Championship run lead by him.
