Run up the Middle

run up the middle... run up the middle.... run up the middle....

is that the ONLY running play we have? No misdirection, no counters, no sweeps, nobody is pulling... unless I missed it, i literally only saw one running play. no play action either. just seems so odd to me.

agree? disagree?

Play action should have been a no brainer when the Hornets started stacking the box to shut down the run. Of course, that was probably about the same time the Kris Brown had to go out there with his 5 yard leash, so I'm not sure what good it would have done.

They think Germer's zone blocking is the answer. It clearly is not. So a run up the middle might actually not be that. But it most always is because nothing opens up for the RB. Occasionally it does but not often enough.

There is no 5 yard leash on Brown, 5 yards is Brown's comfort zone.

You're probably correct, but I'm not sure it really makes any difference whether it's a coaching-implemented leash or a self-inflicted comfort zone. It's so frustrating to watch our offense all but grind to a halt with him taking snaps. I'm sure that some of it is because of more conservative play calling, but it's not like we've been all that creative or aggressive to begin with.

Several jet sweeps against ISU and SS would have done wonders on 3rd downs

Didn't Bergen have one?

Against Idaho they ran it twice (two plays in a row, actually), and then never ran it again. I don’t remember one in Saturday’s game. Could be wrong though…
