Rule Changes

Cochran mentioned during his conversation with Hauck in the latest podcast that the rule change that may have the biggest impact on the game this season is the running clock after first downs, except within two minutes left to play in each half. NCAA says it will take about eight plays out of each game, Hauck feels like it will be fifteen. Even in an age of "go fast" for most offenses, losing seven or eight snaps a game is going to be a big deal. I think it puts extra pressure on Pease and his offense to be productive every series. Three and out's become even more magnified. It will hopefully light a fire under those who spend the third quarter in the parking lots to get back in before the end of it. Yeah... I know. Who am I kidding?

Can't call consecutive timeouts anymore either, though I'm not sure that's an issue for anything other than the game of icing a kicker.

The one I'm still laughing about is the new "Drone Policy." Drones are not allowed over the field or the team area when squad members are present within the playing enclosure. Outside the limit lines, game management (or conference policy) will govern drone activity. There goes a chance at seventeen cameras I guess.

The clock running is a big deal and it rips the fans off in my opinion. I think it is stupid.

I agree.

What is the point of rule change? Did people complain game was too long?

Not actual thinking people, if that's what you're wondering.

This is riding the coattails of the recent changes to baseball. Everyone is in a hurry, but no one is quite sure where they're supposed to be next. It's definitely going to change the complexion of games. How could it not?

And they’re already trying to lengthen it back out again in baseball by looking at possible challenge calls on balls and strikes(see AAA). We’ve definitely put the emphasis on the wrong parts of sports and what made them a great distraction in the first place.

The pitch clock has been great for baseball.

I agree with you Kem, but if they adopt the challenge rule from AAA into the majors with or without an electronic umpire and allow a challenge per at bat, you’re moving backwards.
