Rorie, Pridgett, Oguine, Manuel -- ALL-BIG SKY!

Congratulations to Ahmaad Rorie, Sayeed Pridgett, Michael Oguine and Kendal Manuel on being named ALL-BIG SKY.

Rorie and Pridgett were named to the FIRST TEAM, while Oguine was named to the THIRD TEAM, and Manuel received recognition in TWO categories, TOP RESERVE and among a group of TOP NEWCOMERS.

Competition was truly intense this year. I would have probably switched Harald Frey & Tyler Hall, placed Michael Oguine onto the second team... and DEFINITELY would have named Bobby Moorehead as defensive player of the year.

The awards re-ignite an issue that I believe is hugely problematic in the Big Sky Conference:
There is often, but not always, a huge difference between being Conference MVP and being named the conference Top Player (no current award status). I strongly believe an MVP should be the player recognized as the force leading his team to a regular season title... similar to the MVP award given to the player named post-season tourney MVP.

As is, the Big Sky did recognize Montana players highly, compared to previous years. Go Griz.

Why Oguine doesn't get more love kind of baffles me.

I don't think he was as good this year as last.

AWF just answered why you might think he wasn’t as good this year.

I think he puts the team's interests ahead of his own, which is one of the biggest reasons I like his game.

Are you suggesting that he didn't do that last year too bama?

I agree - I think he did last year as well. It seems like injuries this year may have made some difference in his overall play.

Oguine always reminded me of a shorter Stacey Augmon of UNLV! Plenty of points on that team with Larry Johnson, Anderson Hunt, and Greg Anthony! He does the things like steals, tipped balls, and guarding that statistically go unnoticed, but is a major cog in victories. The kind of player that the NBA looks at for other reasons. He’s got a quick first step and could score more if he needed to.
Akoh, if he had been healthy and played, would have been all big sky too! A pretty great year!

Definitely not. The only thing he didn’t do this year that he did last year was score as much which is because he didn’t need to shoot as much despite improving his fg% and 3pt%. In fact, statistically per game his steals, rebounds, assists, and blocks were right on par from last year. So I ask you, why do you think he played poorer then last year?

Oguine did not play poorer this year. On the contrary, he played smarter and had far fewer fouls than his earlier years. UM is going to have big shoes to fill next year to replace one of the best players they have seen. Scoring is not the only measure of a good player.

Pretty sure I never said anything about his scoring. I am also not saying he didn't have a nice season, but IMO it was not as good as his last.

I think you may be right. Oguine and Moorehead are my favorite players on this team -- and a big part of the reason is because they put team ahead of individual glory, and they make everyone else look better. They will both be sorely missed.
