Rob Ash Fired

I haven't waded through all the posts here and on BN, but I am kind of intrigued on the manner in which Ash was let go.
It starts to look like a bit of a palace coup. Not what Ash deserved, at all.

I agree. To go down at the hands of a faked-out ref on a punt play is the ultimate insult.

I think the cats should be able to get a very good coach to replace Ash! Ash has done a great job building a strong foundation to build upon. If I were a cat fan this would be a exciting time for cat football. My only question would be, do you have faith that Fields is capable of making the right choice to take the cats to the next level of success??? Cats have talent, good apr, decent facilities, large fan base this hire will be very very important to decide which direction the program heads.

Fields now states Ash was gone even if he beat the Griz.

Ash was a good guy. Fields has jerk all over himself!

Fields followed that up with another statement that said,
"We didn't really want to beat the Griz anyway."

Ding Ding Ding....circle gets the square
Joe has been very clear that he wants to retire in beautiful Vermillion and never miss a game of his alma mater.

"Heard it from a friend, who. Heard it from a friend, who-o. Heard it from another Mrs. Glenn's has been shoppin' aro-ound".

For a house in Bozeman, that is. The new coach will be announced in 10-14 days.

A former Griz coach taking the helm at our rival? Hard to fathom.

The truth is often stranger than fiction! If it was the case, one might think that 10-14 days may not give Joe enough time to make his run in the playoffs unless they don't plan on getting past round 1. I threw Joe over at BN and LTCF stated he wouldn't want Joe. Too old and not enough fire. (Shoulder shrug). I would think Joe has enough class for MSU. Not sure about the pants though.

Playoffs? Joe's team isn't in the playoffs.

seems to me that Fields had someone in mind who he wanted for the job....wouldn't doubt Ash has some knife wounds in his back from people he once trusted on his staffs. Ask is too good of a person to have his career at MSU end in such a bush league manner.

There is something about Cramsey playing the QB card instantly that is a little creepy. Somehow I wouldn't trust the guy to take out my trash.

Fields said the evaluation process was over the last few seasons. They looked at his record in all the big games including the playoffs. It wasn't just about the Griz, although that was part of it. The program was going in the wrong direction over the past few years. Being picked by the coaches and media to finish first in the conference this year and ending up with a losing record was way below expectations. Yes, Ash is a very good guy and did an excellent job in turning around the program. Nine years is a long time. Ash showed up at the QB Club meeting last night. He talked about his not winning the big games being the reason why. I give him a lot of credit for being at the meeting. I am sure this was a very emotional thing for all involved in this decision.

If the Griz program fell below expectations for a few years in a row, I am sure the same thing would take place. In fact, if that Idaho State long snapper had not shit his leg and the kicker made that fg a few weeks ago, a lot of your fans would be calling for Stitt's head as you would have been sitting home this Saturday with no playoffs. Just say'in.

You are correct...the ignorant fans would be calling for his head after one year.

Yes, there are a lot of ignorant fans that would do that after one year. And, if the trend was going downward after a few seasons and you were losing all your big games you would be doing the same thing that MSU is doing now. That is true for most schools. I don't think UM with their culture is going to accept mediocrity or below expectations results for too long a period. You guys have a culture of winning and high expectations. I am glad to see MSU not accepting mediocrity and or results that are below expectations any longer.

I'm on the same page, I was thinking something was odd watching his interview.

Don't compare state college football to UM football to make yourself feel good. The Bozeman campus football program has been mediocre almost every year since it started. The Ash years of leadership will be remembered as your glory years.

Only time will tell! You' re just upset that Ash is leaving. You will miss mocking him. Like I said, if the long snapper on Idaho St. hadn't shit his leg and the kicker made that FG, you would be right there compared with MSU not going to the playoffs this year.

I completely understand why the decision was made, but to let the bumbling idiot make the announcement instead of him being shown the door also is where this is a failure. The press conference did even more harm with baffled Pete in charge.

Your AD stated that they expect to be top #10 in the nation in football every year. What is he smoking? How many years out of the past 75 years has state college been top #10 in the nation in any athletic program? I think he has been listening to the guy he fired.

We may have gotten in over WIU.
