Rob Ash Fired

You don't think the 1984 NC at MSU had any affect on UM? Oh wait, WA-Griz stadium was built two years after the Cats NC! I wonder, just maybe, if UM saw what MSU did and decided to step up their game?

I'm not keen on the history of Griz coaches, but it appears you fired your coach in 1985, built a new stadium in 1986.

So to recap:
Cats win NC in 1984
Griz fire coach in 1985
WA Griz stadium built in 1986

Wait. Hold on . . . are you actually trying to say the MSU fucking bobcats are to thank for the rise of the Griz? This is getting incredible!!!!

Tnt, where is your proof Dakota is "claiming" to have been contacted by several schools???? That's a pretty serious thing to say. And I haven't seen or heard him say that anywhere.

So in all of this mess, Fields is the one that schedules their schedule every year... and the one who bought out the NDSU game. I'm surprised he hasn't been canned yet.

Might have to buy out more to pay the bill for having two head coach salaries all spring (read it is about 100,000 they will still owe Ash)

You have to go back to 1980-1986 coach Larry Donovan with only one winning season.
Go Griz!
Hey now... be nice...

Larry, I was there in the stands singing "Goodbye Larry" with the student section at your final game.

It was bitter sweet.
Well, no it wasn't.
I believe it was just bitter.
We were bitter you'd not been sent packing earlier.
FWIW, alcohol was involved. Good times. Yeah, good times.

Were you the guy who threw the frozen pumpkin through the front window of my house?

Well, I for one won't pile on here. I loathe the cats but certainly have respect for Coach Ash. He ran a good, clean program and had some success along the way. Anytime someone loses their job it's a bummer, especially for the lesser paid assistant coaches who will now have to scramble hard to find something else quickly. So, to Coach Ash and the rest of the cat staff, I say best of luck to you.

Fairly sure that schools currently could not be in contact with him....of course maybe he meant Carroll....

Anyone who thinks that Hauck will be hired for that opening is an idiot.

Oh wait. I hate it when I'm duplicative.

What are we if we just have no clue whether Hauck would consider the job? Half-wits??

It seems to me the problem the kitties are going to have finding a new coach is that candidates will see that when you win 8 games per year and run a squeeky clean program, if you have 5-6 season and don't beat the Griz you are gone.

Wait, there's more: if Dennis Washington and his sons had any integrity they would recognize that he bankrolled the wrong stadium and would now attone for it by building MSU a new stadium just as Alex Spanos built them all over California:

Well, in all fairness to what your son is coming into I would hope you realize the school we lost to has uncle Denny Washington as their cash cow with an estimated net worth of 4.6 billion. His conglomerate is by most accounting records the second or third largest beneficiary of the governments war on terror. As long as his wife's school wants to remain small college football you're in all probability going to see our kids playing in a substandard Southern high school stadium and realize the largest college stadium in this state has a seating capacity of less than 30 thousand. If Washington and his kids were concerned about our state and maintaining any type of integrity he'd be like the Southern business men or Alex Spanos. Spanos financed Cal Poly, U.C. Davis and many other college football venue improvements.

This had to happen, congrats LTCF now you have hope again.

As a Griz fan it gives me great sorrow though.

"Coaches are hired to be fired" ... and they know that. But without a high level of confidence (bordering on arrogance for some/many) in themselves, guys -- and gals -- do not stay in the profession. So when they say they can "turn the program around" and "meet the expectation of the fans and administration," it's not just empty "coach speak" -- they really mean it. Most even halfway decent programs today seem to have unreasonably high expectations, so I don't see the high bar in Bozeman as that much of a detriment in attracting candidates.

Isn't the story that Dennis offered to make the same gift to MSU and they turned it down?

Prukop graduates in Dec (Econ) He claims to have been contacted by several programs and supposedly was considering transfer trying for a "VA." He's no VA................. He's just making noise and marketing himself. One of the reasons (like EWU) they are successful from time to time but not an "elite program"
Awesome news for an FBS team looking for a RB

I haven't read the thread but saw the name of Robert Lawrence Hauck a few times breezing through it...let me assure you he would rather drag his nuts across 5 miles of broken glass than coach the Cats for 5 minutes...the hate is real there.

MSU firebombed its reputation with recruits, donors, and potential coaches with the way this was handled.

In fact now that I think of it, nor was it you at all. Damn, I told you alcohol was involved.

It was when Gene Carlson was sent packing. It was much like the current situation in Bozeman. There was general celebration in the streets. Much like a mini-Aber Day, except with whiskey instead of 1,000 kegs of beer. That was when you came in. WE LOVED YOU (a little bit, kinda of, sort of, maybe) because you did manage to get the Grizzlies into the playoffs. :ugeek:

I think it was Marty Mornhinweg and Bob McCauley when it was announced you were moving to the wishbone... Of course, I may have my years mixed up as I was pretty much in a drunken stupor in all things football related in those days...

What a profession. You work totally in the public eye with everyone from knowledgeable fans to wacko would-be experts criticizing every detail of your performance. And not only YOUR performance but that of 18 to 22 year old kids. And collectively they have the power to have you fired. On the other side, if you are successful, you have the opportunity to be lionized and paid more than any other state employee or even most corporate CEOs, much less the lowly professors on campus. That's the trade-off you have to accept, but how many critics of coaches would be willing to be job-shadowed every day and critiqued for their every move? "You didn't tape that dry wall exactly straight there, pardner." Good luck to the bobcats in finding a more successful coach than Ash. :coffee:
