Riley Wilson in the portal

It has become very apparent that if we are going to win any more National Championships in this NIL era, we are going to need some mega donors to step up with the cash. I very much dislike this NIL era. It has ruined college football, and especially the FCS. If we don't get the support of our mega donors, we are toast. Just my two cents. Good luck to Riley, I don't blame you at all for taking the money. It's all about the money now.

Do you believe we have a lot of Mega-donors (more than 1)?

no money = very minimal college football success. UM Leadership needs to figure it out and they will it’s just a matter of how long it will take. Prez graduated first at West Point so that’s a good start!!
Not sure what his West Point class standing has to do with anything ...

Do you have suggestions of a sustainable source of income that UM can tap to bankroll NIL on an annual basis?

A number of different scenarios could be playing out here. Maybe there is genuine FBS interest. Maybe he wants to spend his final year on a roster where he plays specials teams but he gets some cash in his pocket and he gets to go to the college football playoff. Maybe he wants to play for a team that will not be in rebuild mode his final year in school, or maybe he just wants to find a place to play that is closer to home. Could be all kinds of things, but whatever it is, he made a decision he likely feels is best for him and his situation. It sucks for UM, but he clearly sees an opportunity and you can't really fault him for taking it, just like most of, if not all of here would take in our own live. Good luck, Riley. Wishing you all the success.

Just because you get an offer doesn't mean you're talented enough to play at that level. Schools need to have special teams players that don't hurt them. We have many players on our current roster who will never see the field.
Why do we have players on our roster who will never see the field?

Every team has players on their roster that will never see the field.

Alabama and Oregon and MSU all have players on their roster that will never see the field.

A lot of schools are attaching a "NIL Surcharge" to tickets of around 10% to support NIL revenue sharing for college athletes.

I'm assuming most fans would be against this, but things like this might just be the cost of watching a winning football team.

I am just not sure how much more meat is on the bone raising ticket prices that are already the highest among FCS schools.

Well I think it means the dude is kinda wicked smart and could help facilitate figuring out how to create and best manage college athletics in the NIL era. I could be wrong.
I like the guy a lot and think he has been nothing but positive to the school and he probably has some influence on this area but he's not the guy who needs to lead the charge ... his job is to run the University and represent all aspects of the school not just the football team and our position or lack of with the NIL/Portal. Seems to me that this is the AD's job. If they need a competition committee then so be it but that still falls in the AD's domain ...

You do understand he’s saying not very many are talented enough to transfer up, and not like you said, that nobody is talented enough to transfer up, right? There is a difference there. Not very many /=/ nobody. Basic reading comprehension.

And so far it looks like only Wilson has gotten better offers. I’d imagine Gillman would too. Of all the returners, not sure if anybody else would get a better offer than what UM is.
Do we have players on our roster that should be on a Frontier Conference roster?

People way smarter than me will need to figure that out. Maybe it starts with alumni and boosters and fans donating more $$. Maybe “charitable” gaming could be a source to help fill the bucket. I know the director of a youth sports programs in another state that funds their entire program through the bar they opened. The bar breaks even but they make huge $$$$ over $250k per year from the pull tab machines and other gambling like blackjack. Right or wrong that’s how they do it.
