If it is Godfrey he has tons of raw skill. Not very polished on the offensive end but is pretty dang athletic for a 6-9 kid. He is a bit enigmatic though. Some games he would be the most dominating kid on the floor defensively and offensively but others he would disappear into the wood work entirely. Some of that probably had to do with the fact that he spent only a year at CSI after transferring from New Mexico Military. The other part was that the CSI mens team was an absolutely dumpster fire this year. Injuries, defections and frankly some terrible attitudes undermined what should have been a team with significant potential to win another NJCAA title. Ranked #1 at the beginning of the year, and got blown out in conference tournament at the end.


He was orginally committed to LMU and I honestly don't know what led to him or the school severing that scholarship comittment or even why he left New Mexico Military. Some of the Northern Cal guys who watch basketball probably have a better feel for his issues. I think he ended up at CSI because of the penchant for putting guys in D1 programs.

I think there were post players in the conference that had more polish than him, but that being said his athletic traits are hard to ignore. Would be an athletic post presence similar to Breunig and Dejong.

I assume he can leap. I saw mention of one game where he had 13 boards. And he can block shots. But he looks like he's only about 205 lbs, so he needs to put on some weight.

A key point to make here, as I see it, and a hallmark of DeCuire's tenure so far: No acrimony between players and coaching staff, and no dismissals for disciplinary reasons. I see these strictly as talent issues, with neither Bradshaw nor Boehning (both Tinks recruits) likely to get much playing time based on the talent DeCuire is bringing in. Down the road apiece, it seems at least one player is leaving because he and the coach did not get along.

Yeah he can leap but as you noted he really light. He got manhandled a bit by traditional post up guys, but he can run the floor. Does get lost a bit in a half court game. He is a better defender on teams who have flex 4's than post up 4's and 5. He was man handled by big guys a bit, and is a much more imposing player in the open floor than under the basket.

Well, that was an interesting comment, since if he was referring to current team, that would be DeJong, Kryslovic and Boehning. It's too bad that Riley is leaving. He had talent, just not the right fit. Also, arguable that if he was played more he might have done better -- chicken and egg argument. He's well liked on the team.

But, as to the "bigs." No doubt Krslovic is important, but his role this year did not fulfill the expectations created last year. Fewer minutes, fewer points per minute. Boehning? It's obvious DeCuire has little confidence in him. He's a big kid, but kind of lumbers up and down the court.

DeJong didn't get all that many minutes, but DeCuire was obviously comfortable substituting him in for Breunig, even in close games, when Breunig got into foul trouble or needed some speaks. and the more so as the season progressed. His performance per minute played was surprisingly good, he showed some excellent athleticism, moved well on the court, has a nice hook shot, and did some very nice stuff blocks without getting a foul. He demonstrated a good instinct for where the ball was.

Like Krslovic, his defense was better than his offense this season, and Travis needs some more offense from these big guys. On the other hand, if he decides to follow my recommendation -- :lol: -- and go all in with the three point revolution next year, that might be all he needs under the basket, good defense, good rebounding and let the guards take the shots.

Fortunately, the GRIZ don't need a big time scorer in the post. They have plenty of scoring as is. I think Krslovic and DeJong will each improve their scoring from the post. The GRIZ need defense and rebounding from the post.

It will be interesting to see what happens this summer.

I don't mean a scoring threat like MB but some offensive threat, but you are right rebounding and defense can make up for points.

Riley to Rocky

Last week Riley was talking about "big decisions to make" and that was it. Rocky is a great little school, and Riley can finish out his career playing basketball, and likely being a team leader, rather than sitting on the bench waiting for crumbs of playing time. It should be a great time for him and he can shine.

One of those circumstances that likely works out well all the way around. Riley was well-liked on the team, and by former team members as well.

That's a huge plus, and esp for recruiting. "Word" gets around about "coaches," and in Jud Heathcote's immortal estimation, "you have to recruit their Moms," and these days, the "Moms" are all over the internet tracking down every altercation, rumor and accusation. "Coach is an asshole?" No Mom wants that for their kid. Reputations are like herpes, easy to get, hard to get rid of.

Over East, not so good.

This turnover is beginning to remind me of the Huse days. I feel like we have more turnover on the basketball team than the football team with a tenth of the players. Is this normal in college basketball? Is Fish a bad judge of chemistry with these guys before they get here? WILL WE EVER GET A DECENT BIG MAN??
