Riley Bradshaw is the nicest kid any of you will ever meet, so to make comments such as "It would be a good diet for his ego" are absolutely absurd. Nor do any of you know any of his circumstances for leaving, so to sit here and make general comments like Tinkle wouldn't want or need him are out of control because you don't know what you are talking about AT ALL. Bradshaw is doing something he wants to do, so let him do it without the harrasment or criticism.
I agree with you regarding Riley and his family. Most us are wishing him the best, and hoping he comes back closer to home. There are only a few knocking the kid, or implying Tinkle does not want or need him. As I said before, I would love for him to be a GRIZ, and would be very happy for him.
The fact is, Tinkle recruited Riley, and had to move on without Riley, after Riley made his decision. Since then, Tinkle has filled the roster with other very good to great guards, also with very high ceilings. The only guard we lose after this season, is Will Cherry, which will not be redshirting, unless there are major setbacks with his injury. Even if Riley would be better than all the other young guards, it makes no sense for Tinkle to sacrifice other players who have committed to the program. Tinkle has a very good reputation, that is growing on the national level. He would be a fool to turn his back on current players who committed to Tinkle and the GRIZ. Riley, not the GRIZ, not Tinkle, chose to shut the door to the GRIZ and Cats.
Tinkle's job is to keep his promises and expectations to the current GRIZ players and families. Sure, if a scholarship opens up, and Riley is willing to compete for playing time, him being a GRIZ would be great, and everyone would be happy. Granted, I don't want to see Riley be a Cat either, but if I were giving him advice, but it would likely be a better fit for him, and their program.
Deshields and Gregory, are sophomores with good overall games. Gregory is a true PG, which many will see has improved a ton since last season. Deshields is a combo guard, which is ready to become our defensive stopper, which happens to be a solid scorer too. Henderson is a swing 2/3 with mad athleticism. If/when he develops his game to go with his athleticism, look out Big Sky. Kareem Jamar is the best SG/SF combo player in the conference, and the best play maker on the team. He has another year left. Mario Dunn has committed to the GRIZ already. From what I hear, he is the 2nd coming of Will Cherry, but a better distributor. By the looks of the roster, I see Henderson getting a lot of minutes at 2 after this year. We are pretty loaded at 3 (Weisner, Emerson, Wiley)
Best case scenario for Riley is being part of a 4 guard rotation after Jamar moves on. For that to happen, he honestly would have to improve his defense and footwork a lot, or become a true PG. I honestly believe Gregory and Dunn have the PG rotation shored up for the next 5 years. I don't see Riley being long enough or quick enough to be a SG for Tinkle's defensive strategy. Can Riley cut it? Yes he can, if he works on his athleticism, quicks, and defense. The GRIZ cupboard is stocked for the next 3 plus years, and stocked with very good quality guards.
If part of his decision is based on playing time, he does not better it as a GRIZ. If it is about being close to home, and being part of a winning program, this is a great match for him.
Rather than busting on egrizzers giving their opinions, why not enlighten us, why Riley is leaving, and what his intentions are? Right now, all this is, is speculation.
