In the pre-season the conventional wisdom was that the defense would be quite good and would have to carry a young offense through the first part of the season.

In the App game the offense scored 27 points, usually enough to win, but the defense gave up 35.

So....what do you think, might the defense be not quite as skilled as first thought?

You know, everybody's focused on secondary play, Hermanson, Tully. I only got to see a couple highlight reels, but the run defense against ASU, right from the line of scrimmage, looked pretty damned weak to me. No expert (just a "pedestrian" fan) - thoughts?

We held them to 3.3 per carry.

If you saw their rushing highlights from the 4th, that one's on the offense. When your O has four three and outs, the defense gets pretty damn tired. Miller could have walked in on that last TD.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Fair enough. Fourth did stand out like D was just letting them walk into the end zone. Not seeing in the context of the whole game makes a difference, doesn't it? Didn't really consider that the D was just plain wore out. However, that's going to be an issue as the season heats-up. D may be on the field a lot - better get used to it and be ready.
