Having never coached beyond 6th grade flag football and 7th grade girls basketball, I'm not privy to all the responsibilities that fall within the job description of a college head football coach. The position appears dauntingly complex to me so can somebody who is knowledgable regarding the job explain what exactly a HC does, and what the most important aspect of the position is? Thanks!

I don't have any experience either and my knowledge comes from observing the current staff. The most important thing is
1. Picking boogers.
2. Wiping them on opposing coaches.

I been coaching little league for 20 years, heck I can take the cubbies to the world series, no prob. hc, no biggie, surround yourself with good assistant coaches, delegate authority, tell the parents and boosters to eff off, and always, always, have a ringer on the roster. :clap:scarface said:
The reason I asked this question is because really all I see is the sideline coaching and some practice sessions and I want to know the full scope of responsibilities that the AD will be looking for. I found the job description of the Univ. of South Florida head coach. Interestingly, there seems to be very little mention of the game day sideline routine.I bolded the important aspects pertinent to the U of M position.

work may include coaching in outside areas, hot and cold weather, and exposure to
elements such as rain, snow, dirt, fumes, and loud noises. The duties require moderate to
active physical activity, handling of weights and objects weighing 25 to 50 pounds, and
standing or walking more than four hours per day.

The following list provides examples of the most typical duties for positions in this job
class. Individual positions may not include all of the examples listed, nor does the list
include all of the work that may be assigned to positions in this job class.
• Direct assigned Assistant Coaches and Graduate Students in the overall planning and

• Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student athletes to support the
