I have always liked Leaf, but don’t really know him and know his multiple issues. Knew his family. My daughter was good friends with his middle brother. Our family went to see him play in the Rose Bowl. I am happy to claim him as a Montanan. While he always head a big head, addiction is tough. And he hurt his wrist in the NFL.

Loser Leaf was in Florida when he had his domestic violence arrest. Truly a “Florida Man” headline and mug shot. Dude’s head hardly fits in the frame

Excusing addiction and burglaries is one thing, but I have a real hard time ever excusing domestic violence.

Palm Desert is in CA not Florida. “ We're told Leaf showed up in court Friday and agreed to plead guilty to 1 count of misdemeanor violating the personal liberty of the accuser.” TMZ.

So, nothing still on the OC’s hearing following his DUI arrest and attempted evasion involving a scheme with junior coach? I guess we’re in fall camp, so this has to wait until after the season?

Oops. Can be confusing. There are so many mug shots it’s like the google pages are a flip book. Some mugs are at the beginning of a jail sentence or stint and others at the end. Each one looks like a different dude

“ MSU offensive coordinator Taylor Housewright had a Gallatin County Justice Court omnibus hearing scheduled for Wednesday concerning his driving under the influence citation, but the court date was moved to next month, according to court records (omnibus is a pre-trial hearing meant “to expedite the procedures leading up to the trial of the defendant,” per the Montana legislature’s website).

MSU running backs coach Sam Mix did have a hearing Wednesday. He was found guilty for driving without a valid driver’s license, while his obstructing a peace officer charge was dismissed by the prosecution, per justice court records. A speedy trial for Mix, who changed his plea after initially pleading not guilty, is scheduled for December.

Both of Mix’s citations happened on the same May night as Housewright’s alleged DUI.

MSU defensive coordinator Willie Mack Garza, who was cited for a DUI in November, is scheduled to have an omnibus hearing next week.

Garza and Housewright, who both signed new one-year contracts in April, have pleaded not guilty.

Garza was suspended for one game last season. MSU has not announced any discipline for Housewright or Mix as of Friday.”

I don’t understand what was said about Mix. Given what occurred, why would he trial in Dec?

Are the coordinators trying to delay trial until after season?

Thanks, hoops. I suspected the prosecution would drop the ball. December. How convenient. The BOR needs to clean MSdUi's house completely from Cruzado down to the last grad assistant. While they are at it, Clayton Christian needs to go, too. This is just a coverup.

Thx, Hoops. I agree, the article makes no sense re: Mix. Found guilty on one charge, the other dismissed, but a “speedy trial” scheduled in December? Maybe they mean sentencing? But I can’t imagine driving without privileges could ever result in jail time. Odd.

my guess is what was meant to be reported was that initially Samosa Mixer had plead not guilty to both charges but in a plea bargain plead guilty to to driving without a valid D/L which is as mild as a citation as you can get. It is not even remotely the same as driving while revoked or suspended the "is" probably should have been "was"..

I just plucked the words from GrizDie's linked article.

MSU offensive coordinator Taylor Housewright reached out to Leaf last year, according to Vigen.
Wait, Houseparty reached out to Loser Leaf before Houseparty had his own incident this year? So this is not some recovery story, it’s just a fortuitous cover?

I’ve asked around here multiple times but no bub will answer. How many beat writers do the bubs have? VF is one. Are there others? The nice homeless man at the court house said skyline did have a writer dedicated to all things bubcrap. What have they said about this?

Don't forget about Colter, whatever it is he does or doesn't do.

Could be. It’s that writing/editing thing that trips up so many journalists these days. Thank goodness it’s not that big a part of the job. 🙄

Remember how one skyline reporter came here and reported that the story would be covered differently if in Missoula because of bureaucracy?

Well, using my amazing new investigative journalism powers, and an inside tip from a homeless man, I found out a different skyline reporter is reporting something totally different on the bub’s board (I followed the tip there; something I swore I would never do, but true reporting requires venturing into the darkest depths)

Sounds like that skyline reporter is reporting the story is not newsworthy and seems to be excusing DUIs, or at least downplaying them, and possibly even lobbying for coaches to have them? IDK, makes no sense. Here are some excerpts of what that skyline reporter reported:
…Getting a DUI has a lot of penalties associated with it. I myself am not sure where to draw the line on the penalty.

It's such a tough topic (DUI penalties) to have a concrete position on. So many people drink and drive. Some never get caught despite doing it all the time. Some get caught the first time they do it. Some end up killing other people and themselves doing it. What's a fair punishment? Fines, jail time, insurance rate increases are all currently out there.

What does a DUI currently cost?

Seems like all sports are associated with drinking. Tailgating isn't just food and soft drinks. The bars make bank on sports. Even evangelical coaches drink (and get DUIs).

I just think that there's no way around coaches drinking and given that they're going to get DUIs. I don't really care if a school fires a coach for a DUI or not, simply because the new person they hire is probably going to drink and drive, too. Or someone on the staff is going to drink and drive.

There are driving jobs within the transportation industry that don't allow drivers to be fired for a DUI. Some don't even get fired for failing drug tests.

…The threat of termination does serve as a deterrent, but I think that threat already exists and therefore I'm not so sure that the actual termination of an employee actually goes very fare in solving the problem.

I think almost every person that gets a DUI thinks they won't get caught. Probably because they've gotten away with it so many times. The odds are so small that they take the risk.

I think if you fire someone, then it's pretty likely that you're going to hire a new person that is also going to drink and drive. And since that person hasn't already had a DUI, they're probably more likely to get one than a person that's already had one. Not saying you should hire people with prior DUIs.

I'm not sure how bad the optics are. Perhaps in a close circle, but I just don't think assistant coaches getting DUIs is a real big news. Maybe in the NFL or at an upper level FBS school. It's definitely something for a fan base to give another fan base crap about. I haven't had anyone say anything to me about it and I haven't overheard anyone talking about it.

But don't get me wrong...drinking and driving is bad. I just don't know how much the additional punishment of being fired adds to deterring it. Seems like we're herding cats.

…They aren’t high enough profile people and there wasn’t a death, injury or property damage involved so it’s highly unlikely that the media will pay much attention to this. The next time the media does anything will probably be when MSU issues a statement or if the players became vocal about it, which is even more unlikely.

I’m not saying it’s okay but I just don’t think the media is all that hungry to report on it.

Most of my family and several of my friends are big Griz fans and none of them have ever said a word to me about it. One person has brought it up. Message boards are their own universe.

Nationally, MSU is about the fifth level of football. After the NFL, other pro leagues, P5 and G5.

You have to do something spectacularly bad or good to pick up media attention.

tell all that to someone who’s lost a loved one due to a drunk driver. Not to mention that Housewright tried to cover it up by leaving the scene. Or a third DUI by a defensive coordinator. Let’s compare apples to apples. Oh then throw in my family are Griz fans….nice touch by an absolute idiot! Just my opinion….

Apparently, skyline’s position on this story changes depending on whether they are talking to a bubcat or Griz.

If to a Griz fan, the skyline reporter should feign interest, blame bureaucracy, and claim it only analyzes the news.

If to a bub fan, the skyline reporter should down play dui’s, blame society, and claim it’s not even newsworthy.
