I am always so proud of our teams, University, fan support, and facilities, but I agree with you. It is unbelievable to me at the start of the 3rd quarter when the TV cameras scan the bleachers and you see what looks to be 2/3rds of the seats EMPTY! Reckon it is what it is, and still a free country, but honestly, IMHO, it should be, and is an EMBARRASSMENT to Griz Nation! :( :( :(

There is only 2 ways to fix this:
No re-entry if you leave at halftime
or
Sell beer in the stadium

OR BOTH
Ya, suppose so. Again, IMHO, sad but probably true.
Why are you watching a home game on tv? Rewatching to see what you missed? I missed a bit of 3rd uni game as well after not hearing the cannon. Local beer served in the stadium would be awesome!!
I simply stated an opinion. Not at all interested in getting in a pissing match with you or anyone else. Been a Griz fan since 1956, been to many many games, and still make the ones I can. The ones I can't, I go to any length to watch. Easiest way for me to do that, home or away, is on TV. In all those years,it has never taken a cannon, or anything or anybody else, to get me in the stands to root for The Griz for all 4 qtrs, in all those years.

I love beer.

I love the GRIZ.

I wait 9 long months to have maybe 3 or 4 opportunities to watch the GRIZ. I can go 3 hours without beer.

That's easy to say when you have a hollowed out prosthetic hand filled with bourbon.

Usually go with the flow, but. IMHO if only die hard fanatics attended any event (including concerts and pro sports) attendance would be significantly reduced. Many are there for the social experience, to see and be seen, and don't know a tight end from a screwdriver. Call them whatever you want but they will only support successful teams. The tailgating Wa-Griz experience--including some excellent food and drink--presents strong competition to a 26-0 half time score. I understand and appreciate the tremendous advantage the screaming full NEZ represents, but realistically it isn't going to happen at the beginning of 3rd quarter. The Griz players who feel they have to flap their arms like geese on ice to get the crowd into it in order to perform well need to pay more attention to their assignments and not so much on counting empty seats. And don't tell me I'm a bad fan if I don't stand for sixty minutes and yell myself hoarse. Did I mention I've attended every game in this stadium and have never left at half time and stand and cheer?

You’re a bad fan if you don’t stand for sixty minutes and yell yourself hoarse. :D

Its such an easy fix. Plus a huge revenue generator for the school. I don’t get why they don’t do it.

...And for the local breweries potentially...

If I remember right, this has been visited by the athletic department several times. If memory serves, the big issue is twofold: athletics contracts with dining services for a flat fee of $20,000. Any profit from that goes their way not to the stadium or athletics. Second, the athletic department worries about the degradation of the tailgate experience. There was an article in the Missoulian about this in 2015. It goes through it pretty well.

https://missoulian.com/ravalli/sports/college/grizzlies/um-not-concerned-about-emptying-stadium-at-half-alcohol-sales/article_e1bbe9b7-f7a8-5581-ab65-0b60804031f6.html

I think this subject has been beaten to death over the years, but the third quarter of last weeks game was absolutely brutal. You could hear whistles in the crowd on the TV broadcast. On the camera pans of the crowd it seemed a 1/4 full for much of the quarter. I don't know that it is worse than in the past, but there really isn't an incentive to get back in the seats on time.

As noted in other posts, I think there are a few things that could help rectify the situation. The alcohol vending issue might not be up to the admin but rather the Regents as a decision making process and it would make the university money, not the athletic department. They aren't going to close the stadium, because tailgaiting does make the GSA some money. The only other option is to lock the gates 5-10 minutes into the 3rd quarter. I don't even know if that is feasible, but it seems like a reasonable compromise in my estimation.

The athletic department recognizes there is a problem, but there is very little they can do without alienating a ton of people.

It's amazing how often we hear this. I love our stadium and fan base. we just need to get butts back in seats for the start of the 3rd quarter and help the team maintain momentum.

So 3 ways?

I have been a season ticket holder since before WaGriz. I have missed five or six games in that time. Never once have we left the stadium at half-time. And, amazingly, I am sure, we have lived to tell about it. I would love if one could buy beer or wine in the concessions, but you can't. So be it.

Back when we were season ticket holders, driving in from Idaho, we never missed a beer (or two) at halftime ... and never missed a 2nd half kickoff.

Sometimes we even grabbed some pizza on the way back in. And, honestly, you might have to chug only if you did have a second beer. It's not really a matter of not having enough time. 'Nuf said.
