Regarding Delaney

Well, lets not kid ourselves, Delaney impressed no one this year. But for the record, I don't fault him for stepping in when the team needed a coach in the midst of a turbulent offseason, considering he was already retired. And for his faults as a coach, he does seem to be a very good man at heart.

Where I think the big mistake came was giving Delany a two year contract when he had yet to prove he was HC material. I mean, if the Griz had done well this season, I'd certainly say "Give the guy a couple years". And where it not for the contract now, then thank him for stepping in when needed, and now you have a full offseason without issue to search for a permanent head coach.

Because of the contract though, unless Delany resigns, the Griz are pretty much stuck with him for another year. And the only thing we can do is hope he can do a better job next season. Given what happened this year, and our own lofty expectations for the team, there not exactly what you'd call assuring conditions.

Not saying its impossible Delany can improve with a full year and an experienced team, but again, all we can do is hope. And we'd rather go into the season assured that the team is ready.

Delaney was given the two-year contract primarily for stability. To keep the assistants from leaving. To encourage the recruits to come. It was also thought that he would be a good head coach in this situation.

Maybe try spelling his name right.

You can do this many different ways, like Google, spell check, common sense................

This. I'm not a huge fan of Delaney as a head coach, but he wasn't brought in here under the assumptions that "you're going to need to win". He was brought in to make sure the shit didn't hit the proverbial fan any more than it already had.

And by those standards, he was a success.

Sure, with Breske, Smith, Pflu and JJ, this team could have gone undefeated. But none of them were here and we just have to deal with that.

Just think what would have happened had we brought in a new coach on such short notice that didn't mesh with the players or assistants. We could have easily been 1-10 or 2-9.

Yes, we should have been better this year, but that's just tough shit now.

I think that if Delaney and co. stick around they need to dump Pflu's system (as much as I love it), and focus on coaching to their strengths using the personnel that we have instead of forcing something that just isn't working. If they can't do that, then they deserve all the criticism they're receiving.

Guess you have never heard of this little thing called deferred compensation in the world of sports??? Does Tennessee doesn't feel stuck with a $5 million dollar buy out? We just had a record crowd at WA-Griz simple math problem whats 25,000 X $25 per person as a mean average? Now multiply that by 5....I am not trying to insult you or call you dumb but I hope you get my point?

GrizForever!

Montana does not have Tennessee's budget.

Like I said, I know why he was hired, and I'm glad he stepped in. But was the only option to maintain stability was to offer him a contract when he had yet to prove he could be a long-term factor. At the very least, maybe they should given him one year, and then an extension based on how the team performed?
