Does anybody know where I can find a list of who the Griz are red-shirting this year? All I can find is the roster with everybody on it but I can't tell who is red-shirting? Thanks. GO GRIZ

Thurman decided not to be a part of the Griz this season.

The rest of the list looks right, except Ralston and Scarver have been dressing for games so I'm not sure if they red-shirted or not.

Correct me if Im wrong, but dont several redshirts dress for games when there is little depth at their position? For example, I remember seeing Favors dressed for a home game this year, probably the Eastern game with Van and Miles hurt. I know Brady G dressed last year at QB for a few games.

You keep your RS as long as you don't play.

YUP, RS's can dresss, I was just saying I don't know for a fact that Ralston and Scarver are red-shirting but the other ones are for certain.

When you redshirt, does this mean you also have to go to school for 5 years? Or can you skip school and just play ball?

You still have to be enrolled in school. Not sure if u have to b a full time student or not. If your goin for free and still gettin to play the game ya love, I imagine they don't mind too much.

Im sure you have to remain a full time student. If a player has his redshirt removed mid season like JJ did in 2010, he would still have to qualify academically in order to play. You hear alot of players who are injured going into their senior year quit football due to health reason & the fact they have already received their degree. Im sure most RS Seniors either stretch their degree to 5 years, take random classes or start working on a Masters degree.

Smart guys get their degree in 4 years, which isn't that tough if they are working out in the summer and taking classes then as well as J term. Then they can get a year of Grad School paid for. With all the demands of football however many graduate in the 5th year. I don't know the exact stats but only about 30% or less of non-athletes graduate in 4 years these days.....
