Recruits on Defense 2018

You think maybe Griz football should look at some solid recruits on Defense . Anyone know how many reps the backups played last year? I would say not very many in LB and Dl. You lost the top 2 of the top line backers in the league. I haven't seen any recruit of LBs. I see some D line but did anyone see LBs recruits? Even for redshirt years coming in. Stitt had 24 receivers on scholarship better move some to Db.

Why do people do backflips over players on signing day, and then when someone graduates the cupboard is suddenly bare?

Here’s a list of our LB’s. A lot of talent there with some decent experience from the top 5 and a lot of potential from the rest. I know potential is meaningless until it’s tapped but hopefully this coaching staff can pull it out.

42 Josh Buss RSr
45 Vika Fa'atuiese RJr
33 Dante Olsen RJr
54 Gage Smith RSr
57 Shane Cochran RSr
31 Trace Le Texier RSo
34 Jace Lewis RSo
95 Andrew Harris RJr
53 Carder Key RFr
52 Michael Matthews RFr
56 Marcus Welnel RFr

Here’s our corners and safety’s.

CB
7 Dereon Nash RSo
8 Lewis Cowans RSo
23 Josh Egbo RSo
20 Gavin Crow RSo
41 Curtis Holmes RFr

S
13 Josh Sandry RJr
30 Evan Epperly RSr
? Robby Hauck RFr
14 Michael McGinnis RFr
? Nash Fouch Fr
? Jackson Pepe Fr
? David Koppang Fr

Not nearly as much PT here but the upside on most of these kids is big.

Right? You think we'd get used to it after a while. It's just football. Heck, any sport, really. Even in the pro's a lot of players come and go with the seasons. College is a guarantee, 4 years tops, then "thanks for the memories".

Don't count out Jace Lewis the kid is a real football player and he understands the game

It's going to be Jace and Trace in a year or so making it mostly a SW Class B linebacker corps. :thumb:

GO GRIZ!

All three of our RSFr are pretty talented too, ‘specially Welnel. After Sims/Sandry graduate, who ever has 37 is gonna have another tuff choice to make on who to hand it to.

I am very curious what Hauck is going to do with McKenzie Holt whether it will be D End or Tight End. The guy is going to be a beast.

Please let it be DE. Please.

I really like Josh Buss, Josh Sandry and Evan Epperly from this bunch listed above. When Strong went out and Epperly stepped in, I don't believe we lost anything at Safety, the kid impressed me. Seems to me Cowans had quite a bit of playing time and didn't do too bad, I can't remember. I think I mentioned his names on several plays.

Epp definitely stepped his game this year. When Cowans was in, he was mostly decent with a couple expected Fr mistakes. I think he did start the first game or two but was replaced by Nash who was definitely getting comfortable with playing on the defensive side of the ball. ‘18 may see a couple more growing pains from the corners but all in all, I think we’ll be real good there for the next couple of years.
