Recruits Doing Some Recruting

NDSU ain't the team anymore....their dominant offensive line left with Bohl and their OL coach. They've rode it out well the last few years but it's pretty clear that it's a declining situation out there.

Youngstown State is a pretty attractive option right now, and as much as I hate to say it Bozeman is doing something right on the recruiting trail as well.....although Brian Armstrong is kind of a clown.

Yes the recruiting is stellar....but the coaching is not what it was when Bohl was there.

Really? Based off what? They didn't make the National Championship this year? Doesn't add up.

They're just not the same team. They're losing their "it" factor and killer instinct. If you watched them with Bohl it's pretty clear....at least by the way I've seen it.

Heard some NDSU fans saying the same thing. I don't see it. Still an excellent team and program. I took it as they just aren't used to losing and had no idea what to do with the time.

This is awesome to see again. In Thayne Jackson style, Payton Stoner (our recent verbal who was going to go to FBS SJSU) is working on Tre Bugg (a potential Griz DB recruit who is an all American 3 star stud) to join Griz Nation.

I think EWU snagged a guy who chose them over SJSU also. Amazing that Big Sky programs are getting kids to pick them over an FBS offer. I just assumed that an FBS offer always trumped one from an FCS team.

Honestly, it's not that unusual. Many times if the choice is between a lower-end FBS and a top-tier FCS school a lot of kids want to go to winning program. We have several 3 and 2 star verbals that have offers from FBS schools (MWC Hawaii, Wyoming, SJSU, Air Force, etc). The QB we signed last year also had some FBS offers.

Sometimes kids want to stay closer to home as well so if they're not getting Pac 12 offers we can beat out a lot of G5 schools for local talent.

I'm not sure I've seen anything that would indicate some sort of drop off for NDSU. They beat a pretty good Iowa team this year and made the semis. National champions the last 5. I'd assume they'll be the favorites again next year.

I guess we'll get a pretty good indication of how good both EWU and NDSU are since we play them early next year in Cheney.

Some kids will pick FCS because they know they will get to actually play. Being the 3rd team guy on an FBS team will get you a lot of ST playing time, but not as much on the side of the ball you were recruited to play. If you're of the belief you can play on Sunday's, just like Schann pointed out, the scouts will find you because you got the chance to show what you can do.
