Some might say it's the end all and be all of collegiate athletics. It sure as hell is the beginning.
And the DeCuire regime got off to a great start. First recruit? Michael Oguine. Followed by Rorie and Akoh and Manuel and Dorsey and Moorehead and Pridgett. Those were great teams, all with the help of Krslovic from the Tinkle era.
But the intervening pandemic years have not been kind to DeCuire's recruits. A long list of misses and washouts: Falls, Gaskin, Carter-Hollinger, Beasley, Braggs, Brown, Egun, Selcuk, Kramer. Even two transfers that seemed to be can't-misses, Steadman and Blakney. Not the players to sustain the glory of DeCuire's first teams.
But is our recruiting better now? Does DeCuire have his mojo back?
I'm thinking yes. Tyler Thompson is a four-star recruit. He'll form a backcourt with two other guys I'm high on, Money Williams and Chase Henderson. Nap looks like he's a player. Davidson, Reynolds and Jones are intriguing bigs.
This for me will be the tell-tale this year for where this program is headed. Back to the early DeCuire glory days, or middle of the pack in a conference that seems to be getting better and better.
