I love California. My bro lives in Carlsbad and it's a great area.
My confusion was more to the point that California was the "best and it's not close" when states like Texas and Florida routinely send more kids to big time programs and eventually the NFL.
I think it'd be fair to say that all three of those states are hotbeds for incredible high school football talent. I don't know how one could conclude that California is far and away the best in these regards?
I see what you're saying. I was thinking more like which state produces the most college players at all levels. I know FL leads the way in elite CFB players, but as of this article they only had 6 more in the NFL than CA (193 to 187) with TX trailing back with 160.

I couldn't find definitive data on total CFP players by state of origin I'm guessing because that's a lot of damn players and most lists try to use some home-cooked formula to "determine" which state produces the best players. Lastly, if we're talking the state that produces the most college athletes in in all sports combined, that's when I think it would have to be CA, and second wouldn't be very close.
As I said above, the youth sports here are absolutely insane. "Offseason" is just a made-up word after about age 8, unless you're talking church league or something. I'm not saying it's a good thing, either. Imagine coaching little league and half of the kids' private hitting coaches are in the stands giving advice. When my oldest was 7, she got recruited at a freaking summer day camp to play bball for a travel club team. 4 practices a week, travel games every weekend, $350 plus travel expenses per month. No thanks. Oh yeah, who owns the club teams from second grade through eighth? The HS Varsity coach. So good luck making the HS team if you didn't grow up in his farm system. Anyway, thanks for listening to my TED talk.
