Recruiting Still?

Based on some earlier posts, it seems the Griz still have a schollie to fill. Does anyone have any info at all on who they are looking at and who is leaving (thus creating the vacant schollie?) The current signing period ends in less than 2 weeks (5/19, I think.) :? I hope Coach Tinks doesn't decide to go a schollie player short this year like we did last year. Another true post player last year could have really helped.

I think if there isn't a player that really stands out or fits, then they shouldn't just give it out because they have to. Reaching on an average player ties up that money for 2-5 years. If they leave it open they could get lucky and land a great player with that scholarship in the fall period.

Assuming, of course, that the potential leaving player isn't a big time contributor that would really hurt the team's chances of competing this upcoming season . . .

I keep hearing info that makes me believe they are still looking for a JC point. Earlier this week I heard that the offered Lamont Austin of Howard Jc in Texas but since then I heard that he signed with Morehead State. I am not sure who the player is who is leaving (besides Taylor) but the two most commonly mentioned names are Young and Stockton. If it is Young than I think they could hold the scholarship open if they can not find the right player, the Griz should have enough depth at the 2-3 that they could get by. If it is Stockton, though, the Griz would be a little thin at the point guard spot. I think they would need to pick up an insurance point guard at least.

Point gaurd Casey Rogers is transferring from Carroll to the Uof M. I believe he has been asked to walk-on.

Two days left in the signing period! :?

The signing period ending does not mean a lot. It only means that the a prospective athlete can not sign an official Letter of Intent after that date. Instead he will sign a Financial Aid Letter. There right now is a flurry JC signings happening as quite a few prospects finish up / graduated from their schools. Every year there are a group of JC players who coaches are waiting on to see if they graduate before signing. Come late May, they graduate, an offer is made and they sign. Rasson Young, Elgin-Tylor, and Mathews (can not remember his first name) were all player who fell into this category.
