Reasons why the Griz are better this year

Just a few points about the game and some comments I have seen on this board following the game.

1) A saw some posts about UNA stealing the calls from the GRIZ sideline in the first half. This is non sense. The only people who would know that would be the UNA staff and unless someone here knows a coach on that staff this shouldnt have been brought. This may be a shock to people on here like playerep but these comments take away from what at least I saw in this game(my opinion) and that is this team was a young team last year. They are a year older, wiser, stronger and better prepared. I know its early but it appears to me so far that Bobby has addressed a major deficiency from last year and that deficiency was depth. More than anything else they wore UNA down.

2) Is this team better than last year? Of course they are. The question is how much better. The sample size is too small and at this point too unknown. They beat what appears to be a bad South Dakota team and a team that played a D 2 schedule last year and went 7-3. I suspect the results would have been similar if you plugged last years team into this years first two games.

Did the Griz coaches shield their signals in the second half with towels just for the fun of it?

They should have done it in the first half, when the sun was still coming down to the field. Would have helped with the heat and avoiding sunburn.

Hahah especially because Coach Cox is the signaler!

There were a couple plays, just a couple, in the first half in which the defense over committed and left one guy in the secondary covering two thirds of the back field. That's not the result of a bad play call, it's just a player(s) not sticking with an assignment. I think both times, before the snap, there was some awareness of being out of position, but it was too late. Didn't seem hard to fix, though.

Called switching from man to zone coverage. Keep everything in front of you.

“They came out and did some different things, hit us with the quick passes out on the perimeter, were cutting us down, getting us blocked and we couldn’t defeat the block,” North Alabama coach Chris Willis said. “Had us on our heels pretty much the whole second half defensively. It was just two different games. It really was.”

Willis continued: “I thought first half we did what we needed to do to hang in there, whether it was one-point lead or one-point behind. We had the lead. We went in not feeling overconfident and understanding it was a close game. We made adjustments, but hats off to those guys. They’re a good football team. I think they wore us down. I think their O-line kind of controlled some things there in the second half. You could tell the size probably came into play.”

MIssoulian again.

What, the Griz o-line kind of controlled things in the second half? Can that be true? Don't alot of you think our o-line still sucks? Who's the dummy who was saying a few weeks ago that there was "no sign" that the o-line had improved?

PR - get over yourself already. I don't recall anyone saying the O-line still sucked. I recall many posters, including myself, saying we needed to see them play some games to draw meaningful conclusions. They had a good half no doubt. It's a long season with a tough schedule...I think the jury is still out on the unit, but certainly signs of improvement so far.

Shouldn't you be getting over yourself or getting better with-it regarding Griz football?

I merely kept saying that there had been lots of signs of improvement in the o-line since last year, including additions, spring ball, and fall pre-season and coaches, players and parents saying things had improved. This was in response to some posters saying there had been no signs of improvement.

I've been proven to have been completely correct in what I said. Try following what's going on better, so you don't say so many stupid things.

No, you said there was evidence. Don't lie.

It's a long season and there is now 1 solid half of play....anyone drawing conclusions right now is foolish. There should be none drawn after this weekend as well. Let's get a couple games into the conference before annointing them.

I'm now convinced you neither played the game, nor practiced law.

There was in fact all kinds of evidence. By definition, evidence includes information.

No, there have now been 4 straight solid to great halves of play. No, anyone who can't see the o-line is much improved and deeper knows nothing about football and/or is a total idiot.

Ya ya, never played the game or practiced law. Further "evidence" of your stupidity.

My info is 100% correct. Brint can confirm that my source would be 100% on this. Why do you think that posters have mentioned that towels were put up as the game went one (to cover signals). Don't ever question my information. Ha.

You are correct that this team is considerably better than last year's team. Last year's team would not have pounded by ball late against UND and had 12:15 of TOP. Many other differences too. You just hate Hauck so much that you want to minimize the team's improvement and the opponents. Kem and I talked at the game about how you profess not to be a Hauck Hater, but clearly are.

Your too funny. I dont hate him. Heck I dont know him and have never met him. I am just not blind loyal to him or anybody else like you two dimwits are.

I have gone back and searched. I cant find one time where you have criticized or questioned anything he has said or done. In this game there were spots where it was easy to critique a few things in the 1st half like for example, leaving 4 points on the field or running fake special teams plays when.
This was a slightly better than average D 2 team, nothing more. UNA will be lucky to finish with 5 or 6 wins this year. I am cautiously optimistic. I think they are better. But if you are a "real" football guy you can admit looking at the schedule none of will really know until about 6pm PST on Sept 28th.

I know, you played the game 50 YEARS ago and nobody else on the face of the earth has played it since.

You know what else happened 50 years ago:

The video game pong was invented
Calculators were invented
A man landed on the moon
The microwave oven was invented
Cassettes were invented
The Vietnam war was at its half way point
Post it Notes were invented
The Jets won the Super Bowl
Most importantly my Mom was still a virgin or least that's what she told my Dad.

Im happy for you but as you can see quite lot has changed and evolved since then, football included.

You reference past events when they are convenient for you but criticize everybody else who does when it doesn't fit your narrative. When it comes to Bobby you can reference his past when he was here the first time but you cant reference it when he was at UNLV. You talk about Grizs opponents pasts to argue "quality wins" or "Quality opponents".

I dont dislike Bobby, I like getting under your skin because your a hypocrite. The fact that you were talking about me at the game proves its working. I am so sad you two concurred that I hate Bobby. I might never sleep...................................................................................................................................again. Sorry I fell asleep for a minute

You couldn't get under my skin if you tried full time to do it. I know you are a Hauck Hater, and I like to point it out. I like to get under your skin.

I support the team, coaches and players. I rarely criticize them. That's not my job. My job is to provide some good info and analysis, and point out the incorrect and ridiculous things that people like you say.

Did you know that people with dark skin, including African Americans, can get sunburned? "any people mistakenly believe that the darker your skin tone the lower your risk for getting a sunburn or skin cancer. Unfortunately this misunderstanding is not only widespread but dangerous as well. Not only can African Americans or any person of color get sunburned, everyone—no matter their skin color or tone—is at risk for skin cancer as well. "

And I know who does the defensive signals. Where do you think my info on secondary play and other matters comes from?

Honestly, I think you are a cat plant sent here to torment those who actually know about the game. Seriously, are you even from Montana?

There is ample evidence, both direct and circumstantial over the course of two full games, that the Grizzlies are much improved. Especially the O-line and depth. It has not been limited to merely one good half.

Huh? Of course there was evidence. Whether it tends to prove or disprove anything is another story. Have not even thought about it, nor do I expect to. Have no dog in that one, nor in any claim about firearms. I just think the evidence over both full games (not just one half) demonstrates that the Grizzlies are much improved. UM had one exceptional half, sure, but exhibited improvement over the other three halves as well.

IMO, if you cannot see that the Griz have improved over last year, well then, your not paying attention. They are improved in all three phases of the game. How much improved? Time will tell. Can they continue to improve through the season? Maybe, maybe not, so again, only time will tell. I can also say that if they do continue to improve, our boys are going to be a tough team to defeat in Nov.

Go Griz!

You know what else is solid. Bauman being the 12th ranked QB in the Big Sky after you telling us he’d be in the top 3 based on his stats. Amazing how dumb you are when it deals with actual football.

I said nothing about top 3, I only made a guess at the numbers and where he'd be at the end of the season. Keep watching sweetie...

I never saw your prediction for what his stats would be after the season - why don't you take a stab and we'll see who ends up being closer? Obviously you're super smart dealing with actual football.

Great-grand parents on both sides started ranches in the 1880s. Native American side here in the1600s, I assume.

What's your MT pedigree?

What's your football pedigree?

Oh, and I watch all the games. Talk to coaches after the games, including on the field at home games. Sometimes talk to players and parents too. Text some parents during the week, and during the games.

Where do you get your info?
