If true, its not too surprising.............that's what happens when you eff up your grades when you have a full ride scholarship. Hopefully he learns from this.

In addition, this sucks. I loved his energy, and i feel he was going to be a big contributor this season.

I guess one less big will be redshirting this season. Enter a redshirt rant now. I would like to say this surprises me, but it does not. Good luck Billy.

Bummer. Billy had the drive and desire on the court, I hope he gets it together in the classroom. Good luck, Billy.

That sucks. We hadn't heard of anyone leaving so I was starting to think that they must have took his scholly and had him to walk-on. Guess that would have been having your cake and eating it too. Hopefully this is a wake up call for the kid, he has a ton of potential.

Reader seemed like a great kid but really think he had issues with school that went beyond being lazy. I recall Coach Tinks commenting about expected academic challenges for Reader when he first arrived and it's too bad he couldn't overcome them.

I wish him the best in school and life going forward. Not all kids are made for college and that might just be the case here.

I wouldn't be writing him off just yet. The College of Southern Idaho is a community college and it could be just a step for him to get his grades up, get playing time and return in a year to Montana. He could be a player if he gets academically qualified. The College of Southern Idaho has sent a lot of good players to Division 1 basketball schools and the hope should be that he would return and not get picked up by some other school.

So CSI = ?

It took me about 30 minutes to figure it out too. When I 1st seen the title, the 1st thing I thought of was, somehow he got a minor acting role in one of the CSI's. I am not used to seeing Southern Idaho listed as CSI. I even tried coming up with California State and whatever "I" city. I admit, I was stumped too. :thumb:

As for Reader, I hope he gets the academics in order next school year. He has a lot of untapped potential, and a high ceiling. The kid can move well, and is pretty athletic for 6'9". He has a soft touch, and moves when he does not rush things. I wonder if Billy, and Wayner, would each consider returning to the GRIZ, if he gets the academics in order?

I have never heard him, staff, or team mates say anything negative about one another. I talked to him a few times his 1st season. He was polite, and well spoken. I would have never guessed he would be someone with academic issues, unless he just does not try. Then again, based on his energy on the court, he might have difficulty sitting still long enough to learn, in a classroom setting. Could he be more of a hands on learner, than book smart? Maybe, someone can expand on this further. I doubt Tinkle can say much more, due to the privacy of the information.

Maybe when I get back home to visit, I can get something out of someone. I really am disappointed Reader is leaving, and like the kid. On the bright side, I am stoked to see another Montana kid on scholarship.

Good luck Billy! :thumb:

This is exactly what I was wondering. I am hoping it's just a, "so long for now."

Exactly right, I completely agree. Hopefully the academic pace will be a little better for him at CSI, and hope he can continue to develop on the court. He certainly showed some flashes that he could be a quality big man.

Sorry guys, that is my fault. I sort of assumed that people knew what CSI meant.

College of Southern Idaho is a top 5 juco power just about every year. They won the national title two years ago. Typically put a ton of players into top notch DI programs, some are placed here so they can qualify and end up on a DI campus couple years down the road.

Pierre Jackson who was baylor's starting PG last year was from CSI. Yeah, I am in the area and follow the Twin Falls Sports guy on twitter. I have a couple of ins in the CSI bb department, I'll try to find out more about Readers departure from the UofM.

When I talked to Reader right before he left he said there was about a 50/50 chance he would be coming back to Montana next year, and that if he had his choice he would be back at Montana. So I would guess grades were the issue. Maybe with his transfer to CSI he'll get his grades in order and we'll see him again in a year.
