Three is no such thing as free! If you are on active duty and getting an education, you have earned it!
I definitely earned the GI bill as an enlisted. The majority of those I worked with were from a lower socioeconomic class. They didn’t have many options and the military was good for them because they couldn’t find employment in the public sector with adequate pay and benefits. Officers were hit or miss, but you could say that about the public sector as well. I do believe there is a higher level of dysfunction in the military. The job requirements can be rigorous, yet mundane. Thanks to all that served and the current crop of recruits aren’t a whole lot different than the past. The main difference is twofold. 1. High school educations are not as comprehensive as they once were. 2. There are so many kids who cannot run, jump, roll or swim. They lack basic hand eye coordination as well. We had sports to play when we were kids. Not much else to do. Now they have phones and video games. I don’t think that lends itself to being physically active and coordinated.

i think young people focus on physical fitness more than you seem to think. people are fatter these days, though - google says in 1980 the average 5'9" male was 149 lb, in 2025 it is 166 lb.

That may be true argh, I am not able to keep up with the young kids as it pertains to physical fitness. They may be more active than I think. The military is having trouble as recruits enter basic. It could be the weight issue. It could be the exercise or physical fitness kids are doing doesn’t incorporate a lot of hand eye coordination or dexterity. Interesting times and will only get more interesting as technology advances.

How dare you tell the truth, esp on eGriz. You'll be called a racist, homophobe, or whatever for speaking the truth.
