Rate each O lineman based on his play so far

Really bad idea to call out individual players...no matter how you feel they are performing they are Griz and don't need their name dragged into such bush-league crap.

Yes I know there are some positions that have had numerous starters/players on the season. Keeping in mind that I believe in the named grades...
A-Excellent
B-Above Average
C-Average
D-Deficient
F-Failure

I don't honestly believe that any of the players is at an average level of play. No amount of mommy and daddy phone calls to the teacher will get me to change the grades to an A. Currently, our run game is deficient to failing against any real defense. Keep in mind that we are supposed to be a power running offense team, not a throw it up 60 times and run 4. Yes, we have good numbers against bad and lower level teams, but against good teams we are getting killed. Our quarterbacks have little to no time and have been running for their life.

Is there hope for the future? Yes, absolutely, but it would have been really nice for the benefit of the team as a whole to break in 1-2 new starters not 5. This O-line will be tough in the future, but as it is right now, it isn't average. I believe we can get there this season but it's going to be difficult.

Thanks for the reply, I would agree with you for the most part in that the O line as a whole is below average but I don't believe they are failing. I mean they have been successful against some weaker opponents. I felt that the O line last year was too slow. They were beat to the point of attack by faster defenses. I had hopes that a lighter O line would be quicker this year and more agile. Do you think the overall quickness/agility is better than last years crew? I wonder if too much emphasis is put on large heavy guys. what is considered the ideal size and weight?

Last year, our O-line went something like this:

Danny Kistler, 6-9, 315
Trevor Poole, 6-5, 290
Kjelby Oiland, 6-5, 295
William Poehls, 6-8, 345
John Schmaing, 6-7, 290

Avg: 6-6.8, 307 lbs

And this year, we're at far different numbers:

David Reese, 6-7, 270
Ben Weyer, 6-4, 270
Logan Hines, 6-4, 291
Jordan Hines, 6-4, 285
Devon Dietrich, 6-4, 270

Avg: 6-4.5, 277 lbs
Remember after the 'Nova game how everyone was asking why we don't recruit smaller/quicker OL's who can pull/lead like the wildcats did to us? Well now we got 'em but of course you won't (or very rarely will) see them pull. Scheme is critical in college football these days and involves so much more than Xs and Os, like matchups, and utilizing personnel and strengths, etc.

to the degree an o/lineman can compete with strength, there is no ideal size...two most important factors coaches look for are agile feet and long arms....some coaches like a little shorter o/lineman as they have a more natural leverage advantage by getting underneath ....the griz usually go for the long type with very long arms......the biggest quality is coming to work with a bad attitude....which is almost uncoachable in my experience...

Hey we have only lost to three-time defending champs and a FBS school. Considering that, we have promise for the future. It sucks we have one of our best QB's, but that is what it is. I think we should quit running the stretch play!

Agree with you, and have often said the same. But you have to have smaller QUICKER linemen to play that style. I think ours are just smaller minus the quickness.
