Can't speak for anyone else, but it is still my university and my pride for it runs deeper than who lines up under center. I spent probably the best 6 six years of my life there. I still love going back there. It was the best money I ever spent and I hope in 2 and a half years, my daughter decides to go to school there. It needs no rehabilitation in my book. I will instruct her on how to best protect herself if she goes to school there just like I would at any other college campus she would go to. That is my answer. It is MY school and always will be. If JJ moves on and leaves Missoula, I would not blame him. The griz are still my team and the University of Montana is still my school. I am a proud alum and will be till the day I die!! How is that for an answer?

That is an inspirational response but does not address the original question. The brand has been tarnished, enrollment is down 3+% when it should be up 5-7% due to a recovering economy and montanans not as willing to foot the out of state tuition, which equates to a possible net loss of 8%. You are obviously educated, do you have any recommendations?

In an improving economy, where jobs start to open up and are easier to get, school enrollment trends downward especially in a Liberal Arts Based School. Professional schools tend to maintain enrollment at first in a recovering economy and then also decline as students go for the jobs and the money.

School enrollment trends upward in a down or struggling economy as out of work or under employed look to improve their education and skills to compete for what jobs are available.

Historically it’s just the opposite. Enrollment goes up in down economy and then down in a recovering economy.

Given the significant amount of bad publicity that came out of Missoula the past year, it is not surprising the enrollment is down. I would assume cuts will be in the offing to offset declining enrollment. I think some rebranding in advertisement is necessary. We are still using the same advertising from 3 years ago. I think the U has to be more proactive in procuring outside research grants like MSU has. Honestly, I think there is a crisis in leadership at president as well. I think the president has made some missteps and he has been part victim of a perfect storm as well. There may be the need for new blood there as well. I think you may be over exaggerating the crisis as well. I would bet that many alum feel like me. We have always been there and we still believe, we have just been drowned out by the chorus of negativity.

I have read on several sites that over the past 3 years, MSU has had more sexual assaults on and off campus than the UM has had over the same time period. Both MSU and UM were about average when compared to other schools and communities with like enrollment/population.
If that is true, the Missoula community and UM need to do a better job telling our story and a new ad agency is most likely in order.

That would be one exceptionally short P.hD. program. Five years is the norm for a B.A., six indicates some good times to go with that book learnin' or multiple degrees.
