Rankings - is SIU the toughest team on our schedule?

I know the ratings at this point don't mean anything, but just for fun (and to keep the BB discussion going) I thought it would be fun to look at where teams on our schedule rank on the Sagrin and Dunkel ratings system. I also averaged the rankings of the 2 systems to get an idea of how far off they are from each other. Montana is ranked 135 in Sagrins, 181 in Dunkel. SIU has the highest Sagrin rating on our schedule (19), Auburn the highest Dunkel. It will be fun to watch this over the season to see how we move.

Here are the RPI ratings as of this morning. SIU comes up as the strongest on the schedule this way too. I think I like this one the best since Montana is ranked the highest

Once again, way too early in the season to take these seriously, but fun all the same.

If these are at all indicitive of the quality of teams then the SIU game should give us a pretty good idea of how much progress the Griz will have made from the begining of the season. Anyone else surprised at how high Sac State is? And how low EWU is?

SIU beat Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the last few days. Our only loss was to Wis-Milwaukee. It sounds like SIU is a very good team.

The Salukis opened @ Wyoming with a come from behind win of 67-62. Both teams shot under 40% on 11/22/03. Salukis coach credited the win to defense. They have been to NCAA last two seasons.

And as mentioned by GrizWhiz, they beat Wisc-Milw on the road 81-77.

They play in the Missouri Valley Conference along with Creighton, Bradley (who recently beat Miami, Fla 83-82), Wichita State and Indiana State among others.

I do enjoy this schedule coach K has put together.

We might have beaten Wisconsin-Milwaukie if three players hadn't fouled out. Its pretty hard for us to play without Seyfert, Venters and Cummings. Brent said the refs were pretty terrible during that game which seems understandable considering none of the 3 guys who fouled out played more than 20 minutes.

The NCAA uses the RPI rating to determine seeding for NCAA tournament, so it is better to look at that over the Sagarin or Dunkel ratings. Plus, the more games played the more accurate the RPI ratings. So expect things to change as we get further into the season.

Once the Griz cut down on the turnovers, I expect them to better compete with any team that is on the schedule. Even SIU.

Griz have no where to go but up still. This is a good team that can improve tons, and they have already looked much better than from the start of the season.

I do look forward to the rest of the season.

So many people are missing out on a good thing.

SIU beat SE Missouri St last night 71 - 58. SIU plays 3 of the same non-cenference teams as the Griz:
Wisc.- Mil: SIU 81, WIM77 Griz 83, WIM 95
SEM St: SIU 71, SEMU 58 Griz 61, SEMU 50
Jack St.: SIU 84, Jac St 49 Griz Play 12/16
