Rangers Get Screwed

The Texas Rangers all but saw their chances to win the AL West go out the window when the streaking California Angels picked up Mark Teixeira from the Atlanta Braves. The former Ranger is expected to pick up an already really good offense and take the Halos to the postseason.

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays and (I believe) the Arizona Diamondbacks were also seen to have been in the running for Teixeira. Goodness knows how Teixeira would have affected the races those teams are in.

How the Rangers allowed a guy of his caliber to get away within the division is beyond me.

Not sure wtf the Red Sox are doing losing to this team over and over again. They've killed them in the playoffs over the last few years but seem to lose endlessly in the regular season matchups.

The Rangers weren't even close in the AL West. The Angels have pretty much wrapped that thing up. They don't have the pitching staff to compete with LAAoA. The interesting race is the NL West.. 3 teams still in it, all could finish below .500.

Rays.. god I'd love to see the Rays knock off the Sox and Yanks.. but they better find some hitting and pitching.. a young, inexperience rotation could hurt them down the stretch..

I loved the reactions of the Tiger faithful here about the Pudge for Farnsworth deal. Everybody seems to love it as the Tigers need bullpen help. However Dombroski is quoted as saying that at least Pudge is going to a contender. What does he think about his Tigers? Is he deep down giving up on them?

I am with GRZFTBL on the Texeria trade. I am a Dodgers fan myself and wish ill will on the Braves. Then again the Braves were always built around their pitching and maybe thats the way they want to build again.

CerealCity: I hadn't heard about that Detroit deal. Not sure Rodriguez wasn't too high a price for a pitcher of the questionable calibre of Kyle Farnsworth.

Mr. T.: Gotta tell ya that I wasn't expecting the Devil Rays to be the ones to take out the Yanks and BoSox. Conventional wisdom the last few years was that if anybody was going to do that, it would be the Blue Jays.

GRZFTBL: The Dodgers made a HUGE mistake in hiring Joe Torre. Better than that retread loser they snagged from Boston. But that's at least TWICE now that they've dissed the best candidate available.

Mr. T.: I never intended to say that the Rangers had a shot with their current roster. But when a former Ranger of the calibre of Teixeira is available, you gotta go get him unless you're completely tanking the season.

Tex burned his bridge in Arlington last year. They offered up a contract extension and he said no (Scott Boras NEVER signs extensions) so he forced the Texas hand. Thus, a trade to Atlanta for Saltalamachia and a young shortstop...He would never have gone back this year.

The Angels are gambling a ton on Tex too. They gave up a guy in Kotchman with a 3 year deal already signed for Tex, a guy who is a free agent in 3 months...

Texas has overachieved this season. The deal between the Angels and Braves has little to do with the pennant race, INHO. Frankly, I agree with Steve Phillips on ESPN who thinks the Angels are the team that lost on this deal---When Tex walks, they get nothing and have to deal with the loss of Kotchman
