Standards of proof are how the real world works. This is an off campus alleged sexual offense. The most serious allegation one could have lodged against them. And yes, all it takes is a woman's word. And based on her word the machine of victim's advocates, biased investigations, and evidence that is judged by a preponderance of evidence, rolls out for the accuser. The University stacks the deck in favor of the alleded victims. Here no-one first asked why would the starting quarter back need or want to rape someone? Does he fit the profile of a sex offender? Might it be that she just might be lying? None of these questions are asked. Rather the University takes her "word" and moves forward.

And now that this "court" (who by the way is made up uf UM falculty members and students-think they might have some external pressure on them and might be worries about what will happen to them should they rule the "wrong" way) has "ruled" everyone assumes that there must be something more than her "word." You might just be wrong.

And for those of you who say, well he put himself in that situation, i ask you to consider the logical consequence of such reasoning. When you become a student athlete you must never engage in a consensual sexual encounter because what you "thought" was consensual is now considered by her to not be and the University has the power to take her "word" for it and under the system established in favor of the alleged victim you will always lose in the "court," be expelled, and lose your good name.

So much for light and truth. The University has lost its way.

I can agree.... by the way, I would think that an "accuser" wouldn't be afraid to come out of their closet and be identified. What is there to fear if you are truthful? Then let the evidence and courts decide. What is her name, anyway? As long as the accused is all over the news, don't the rest of you know her?

The problem with this idea is perfectly illustrated by what has happened on eGriz- the accuser becomes the focus of the allegation.

The questions turn to things like:
What is the accuser's motivation for the allegation? What did the accuser do to get herself in this situation? Could the accuser have prevented the situation from happening in the first place? What is the accuser trying to hide? Why doesn't the accuser come forward into the public eye? Who is behind the accuser, directing her into making these allegations? Is the accuser mentally unstable? How many sex partners has the accuser had?

The alleged perpetrator is essentially ignored as his motivation and agenda is easy for all to understand and is socially accepted as being "normal/understandable/OK"- he wants to get laid.

The only time that the accuser even comes close to getting fair treatment in the public eye is if she is severely injured or dead. Even then many people will bring up the usual questions about whether or not she was "asking for it" by the way she dressed, how much alcohol she drank and so on.

Totally on the money. One of the better posts I've seen on here in long time. I think we are also dealing with generational immaturity. Each generation seems less mature and less responsible than the generation before it.

TokoGriz is getting insanely out of hand, and I think that radiation has caused him to lose some rationality.
