Qvale will play for German pro team Oldenburg

Just ran into former UM Griz great Brian Qvale, who told me he's recently signed to play for German pro team EWE Baskets Oldenburg, in the northern German city of Oldenburg during the upcoming 2015-16 season.

Qvale said he had a great summer playing for the Charlotte Hornets of the NBA Summer league and said he had been invited to try out for a team (he didn't say which team/teams, but I assume Charlotte) in the upcoming pre-season training camp. But he said there were no contract guarantees with the NBA compared to the solid offer he received from Oldenburg.

Qvale said he's adapted very well to Euroleague basketball and said he and his wife, (former Lady Griz) Misty Atkinson-Qvale, have adapted well to living in Germany. They have one child, a daughter, Linnea.

Oldenburg has already posted its starting roster here: http://basketball.eurobasket.com/team/Germany/EWE_Baskets_Oldenburg/1634 which includes American teammates Chris Kramer (Purdue), Vaughn Duggins (Wright State) and Rickey Paulding (Missouri), along with Serbian power forward Nemanja Aleksandrov.

Best wishes, Brian, for a successful 2015 season!

Hard to blame him for going with the solid contract rather than a wish and a prayer. Hope he dominates and is able to come back to the NBA in the next few years.
