--How many here saw Josh Bannan starting?
--How many thought our two best players on the court would be true freshmen?
--Would the outcome have been different if Whitney had started?
--If Bannan and Whitney are this good, how good are the two other members of this freshman class, Hunter Clarke and Robbie Beasely?
--When will we see Clarke and Beasely?
--Will we ever again listen for one hour pre-season to Travis DeCuire on a podcast and expect him to reveal ANYTHING about how individual players are looking?
--Will we ever again listen to any DeCuire podcast?
--Are these the best back-to-back recruiting classes in the history of the school?
--For the entire rest of the season will be run up against two more talented 7-footers on the same team than the we ran up against in the Mobley brothers?
--How much did we miss Darius Henderson?
--Did Kyle Owens come alive in the second half or what?
--Will we ever learn to shoot three's?
--(Ditto above; free throws);
--Should we start a pool before each game on when to expect our scoring drought?
--Weren't the SC announcers better than expected, what with their giving so many props to our alumni and to the history of our basketball coaching tree?
--Wasn't that a nice gesture by the SC kid who could have had a break-a-way dunk with five seconds left but instead pulled back?
--In the history of following Griz basketball, have you ever been more encouraged by a 14-point loss?

You know what got me, solidarity, took me 5 minutes (because I knew we didn't have anybody with that name) to figure it out.
shooters you either are or not....lots of not
Sorry for this ........but I miss Timmy on defense and that attitude
Now....holy shit ...Bannon, I will say it right now will be one of the best big men we have had, pretty lofty company. His dribble drives...well I haven't seen that in a big man since Tinkle.
Whitney is the deal...quite....then look at the stats

Great questions.

I thought the SC announcers were terrific too.

My wife loved the SC guy not taking the last break away dunk. Her dad was coach, including a college basketball head coach for almost 2 decades.

Always surprises. If Clarke is a wing who can hit 3s he'll get plenty of minutes. We need more of the aggression on O we saw from the new kids. For a guy that doesn't look like a gazelle Bannan has a quick but under control first step. Going to be interesting to see how the rotations shape up and who produces. I think they'll be pretty good come March.

Wow! Lots of questions after just one game.

My questions:

1) How many important questions like these will Citay have after game 2?
2) How come none of Citay's questions involve our 1st team preseason Big Sky MVP candidate?
3) Why is it always 29 - 8 or something like that when I tune in 5 minutes late to Griz play up games like this?

I messed up and missed the first half due to some weird time travel thing so started at the half....thank god, I got to see the good parts.

--Wasn't it obvious to everybody that DCH got into early foul trouble and so played limited minutes?
--Do you think Mousegriz will ever amount to anything?

Did Steadman play? MVP of the conference?
Wasn't Vasquez the 2nd coming PG for you last year Citay? Great outside shot, etc.?
Will Fred Brown play at UM before his grandpa fights Mike Tyson?

I don't have anymore questions, that is that could be appropriately answered by a University of Montana basketball forums. I have a lot of questions just not here.

A few observations:

1. Travis DeCuire Holtz: I think Travis has proved over the past years his propensity to vastly underplay and under offer the prospects of his team. He's from the Lou Holtz school of interviewing, under play his own assets and over play his opponents. What has been consistent, is you don't know really how good his teams are until conference time. They rarely disappoint in that regard, and I don't think this year no matter how strange it will be, and from what I saw on Saturday I don't think that'll be the case this year either. This squad might be the deepest and most versatile that DeCuire has had. Not the most experienced, at least in Missoula, and that might take some time.

2. Freshmen: That being said Bannon as what I was told, by a man on the street just offered his opinion sight unseen and in California no less, would be capable of starting day one at the UM. Whitney from my own observations, of seeing a few of his games on the interwebs down here in SC, should have landed at a power 5 school. If you listened to some of the local southern California media guys last spring, they couldn't understand how LA area schools continue to let talent like this leave. Travis and company have done an excellent job at identifying these types of kids and staying with them. This class might be the best group in totality Travis has brought in regards to impact and depth.

3. Three Point Shooting: I am perplexed as anyone as to why Freddy doesn't play more in clear offensive situations more. I have been told, as a few others have, that he is legitimately the best shooter they have in the program. My only guess is that he is an extremely liability on the defensive end. If there was ever an opportunity to wedge yourself into the rotation, it might be as a three point shooter. Freddy hasn't been able to do this but at least the rumor is that he has the shooting ability to fill that role.

I have been told as well that Clarke is a candidate to fill that perimeter three point role, but whether that is actually the case remains to be seen. In some ways it seems like Cortez' search for the lost city of gold, as to finding a lights out perimeter shooter for the program.

4. Rotations: What I was told, before the schedule was finalized, that DeCuire had every desire to play 10-12 players a night if he could. This had to do more with Covid-19 preparations, that has decimated already a number of BSC schools (NAU, EWU) than it was with the depth of the program. DeCuire has stated publicaly that he needs to play more to stave off what is likely going to be intermittent Covid-19 isolations to his roster. We might see a different rotation every night and if I had a hunch, Travis isn't going to treat the games this week against SUU as traditional conference games. I don't think he can, having only one game under his belt, and a complete lack of knowledge of how the team is going to meld together. I think we'll see 10-12 man rotation until January at the least and some really peculiar or odd floor pairings. There is a bit of a feel of a swiss army knife to this group, because there aren't many defined roles and game time might be wholly situational based. I think it was clear against USC that Egun might have been of a less of an ideal matchup where as Whitney's ability to gain access to the key was vastly more important to breaking down USC. Egun could see more time against SUU because of his superior perimeter defensive skills. Again, just a hunch.

With no questions but long winded answers to no question in particular left, it might be a good time as any to sign off.

Question(s):

What’s the deal with Mack Anderson? Three minutes of playing time? Is he hurt? Anybody know?

I'm getting a little tired of all your questions!

I didn't watch the game, but according to the stats, it was a foul a minute. 3 minutes playing time, 3 fouls. He did get one block, though. Maybe the coach was worried he would foul out if he played 2 more minutes.

Good question. I don't know answer. He came in for 2.5 minutes at minute 15. Big men subbed out; big men subbed in. I see one foul on play by play. Paper said 2 quick fouls. He then came in very late in game, twice. Both times to probably play D for Carter-H, who had 4 fouls. I see one foul in the play by play, and the block. In the stat sheet, he's listed with 3 fouls, as was said, and a TO. I didn't see 3d foul or TO on play by play, or may have missed. Assume he didn't have a charge. I thought he'd been called for two moving pick fouls. Perhaps a TO from that?

If I had to guess, Travis wanted to play the others more than MA (Bannan, Steadman and C-H), or perhaps quick/fouls and TO contributed to that. Late in game, he was in twice very briefly for 2 different D possessions to protect Carter-H.

I think we will get a more complete picture of this year's version of the Griz on Thursday when they take on SUU, that is trying to increase their winning streak against UM.

I didn't watch or listen to USC game but watched the whole thing tonight.

So question....do the Griz have any fast break points this year?

Another one...is our preseason 1st team all big sky MVP candidate better on offense than Owen's? Better rebounder and rim protector than Anderson?

Another.... has Satterwhite earned a starting position?

Another.....in a game where there are 30 seconds left... same as shot clock...tied....automatic 2 shots on any foul.....is it good defense/coaching to let the other team's best player dribble with absolutely no threat of forcing him to pass until there are 5 seconds left to drive and draw the inevitable foul and make one or two.....one almost better....or make the layup to win the game?

Another......is Southern Utah coming off two of the best recruiting classes in their history and did they bring two or three highly valued transfers onto the floor this year?

I need some answers Citay!
