Questions for the GFP - post NAU win

Bringing the linebacker up on the line does not make it a 4-3. There are a lot of times we play essentially a 4 man front with our defense, but a LB in a 2 technique is not the same as subbing out a safety to bring in a 4th defensive lineman. I don’t recall seeing Ramos and Hayden in there together. I do however know that we had a really light package that came in where we put a 250 lb nose in and both those guys came out. We ended up having to play that package against a heavy NAU package the next play which was surprising and clearly not planned.
We played a true 4-3 on a number of snaps.

Feel free to post some screen shots of our true 4-3 and identify the personnel and I’ll buy you a beer against Davis if you like. Our 4 man fronts are not run with 4 down lineman personnel like a 4-3 defense.

When you look at our 4 man fronts it typically looks like a 4-2, but there are times we bring the safeties up in line expecting run and it looks like a 4-4 but they are both out of our base 3-3-5 personnel. There is a few other variations, but with any of them we don’t bring in an extra tackle.

We also have 5 man fronts with the 3-3-5 and it doesn’t all of a sudden make it a 5-2 defense because we are still only running them with 3 down lineman and bringing up a backer and backer/safety up for the other 2 guys and not bringing in 2
extra tackles.

No we didn't. Setting a LB in a 9,7,6 or even 5 tech is not playing a 4-3. I don't know which iteration of a Cat's Troll you are, so I don't know your age. That being said, if you are old enough to remember a player named Lawrence Taylor he consistently lined up in those positions but the Giants were a pure 3-4 team. Go on youtube, watch where Carson, Van Pelt and Reasons are pre snap.

This is 98% correct. I reviewed some old Giants game film recently, and LT would line up a bit off the LOS in a 3-4 set. They ran him on a lot of stunts to the A gap. Check this out for reference:

This isn’t fair. You’re arguing with a club baseball player. Stop it! He’s already dead.
