I’m trying to picture a situation in which one could “clear to other hurdles”. Is it like if you’re a busboy, and you go to track practice after your shift? But even that doesn’t make sense because the tables aren’t really hurdles. I’m at a loss.

Situation = fat fingers. It is my short legs that makes hurdles an issue.
