Question on the MWC Board: Why isn't Montana in the MWC

Does it matter in regards to quality of education? I mean really 99% of public higher education is just the same. Liberal indoctrination. Quality of education is found at Wyoming Catholic College, Thomas More College of Liberal Arts, and other very small private liberal art schools.

I was at the CSU/Boise State game on Saturday night and it amazed me that CSU has probably close to 30,000 students and is growing. Talk about a diploma factory! If you wanna fit with those guys go right ahead. I admit UNC isn't the greatest either. 'tis all liberal crap.

I often think back to all the liberal indoctrination I received whilst taking computer science and Cisco networking classes. So much indoctrination!

You're lucky!

Big Sky, CSU is a real university. Northern Colorado, a community college with a high school stadium.
Not to worry as most Griz fans like Northern Colorado because we usually beat them.

I'm just posting because you guys seem to be a subject of conversation over there. Maybe some of you could go on the MWC board and enlighten them on why UM isn't in the MWC.

Apparently I have an account, but needs re-activation. Same username; think you could bug a mod for me?

Done.

Because we don't win the Big Sky as it is.

Spanky and Glendive's argument that we need to be the reigning BSC champions is a non-starter to me.

Do you not believe we would have the ability to recruit better athletes to the program if we were a FBS team? Obviously we would have more scholarships but I believe those kids we regularily lose recruiting battles to such as Wyoming, New Mexico, UNLV, Airforce, etc., would come to Montana if they were playing FBS ball here. It's a difference that makes a difference especially to kids who have grown up with little exposure to the FCS. In many of their minds FCS is Division II.

How many of the teams that have moved up from FCS to FBS in the past dozen or so years have won National Championships or have been regular conference champions in FCS? Take out UMAS, Georgia Southern and Appalachian State. Coastal Carolina has been playing football for a little over 10 years. Western Kentucky; Liberty; Georgia State; Texas State; South Alabama? Even Troy and Middle Tennessee State University Weren't world beaters in FCS.

What these universities saw was an opportunity for their university not just a myopic view of their football teams standings. There are some legitimate reasons the University of Montana should pause and think about playing FBS football. But not winning the BSC isn't one of them.

Great post.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Is the non-starter. Can’t even get students to show up to the games. GD, almost made it through the end of the season w/o Blue Utah Monday and another move up thread.

Ursa, I agree with you in total. My point was most Montana fans only care about wins, no matter the opponent. The Griz used to roll over everyone in the Big Sky and they can't even do that now.
There is no doubt that we would be able to recruit better athletes if we were truly in Division1....now called FBS.

Spanky - I usually ignore your posts because you're incredibly arrogant, but I'll bight on this one. You win...UNC doesn't deserve to be FCS, not DII, but maybe NAIA. Montana has better facilities, and more passionate fanbase. Go ahead and thump your chest even more. You win.

My point is that public higher education is a mess in the country and it doesn't matter that a school is in the Big Sky, Mountain West, Big Ten, Pac12. Cultural marxism is alive and well in just about every public school in this nation. The attack on masculinity, the family, womanhood is prominent, it is their forefront.

This Saturday is UNC's last home game, but I will most likely not go because I'm going to go pray outside of Planned Parenthood for the souls that might be lost. I'll be there with my Catholic (and some Protestant :) brethren. Call me a bad fan, call me a loser because I went to (as you say) a "community college," but sports doesn't matter that much to me. Someday it might not matter as much to you either. I can tell by your screen name that you're just a kid, but someday you might have a family and realize there is more to life than football.

Don't bother replying to this post because I want the last word.

If you only went to a community college, how can you make such broad sweeping claims about higher education? Going to a community college doesn’t make you a loser, but it does mean you don’t know a whole lot about higher ed.

Speaking of indoctrination...

Oops, sorry I didn't see your last sentence

It doesn't matter if we currently win the conference title every year. Boise certainly didn't routinely win it, and do you think they regret making the move?

(Wait, I now see that Ursa already made the same argument. Well, that just proves that great alcohol impaired minds think alike!)

But if we don't win at least 9 games in the MWC year in and year out, a lot of the E-Griz moaners won't be able to achieve their normal stiffer than Bull Elk status every Fall season. Let's just drop to Div.2 and call it all stiff and good...Keep em happy.

Great point, 'booomer! And doesn't late November football just BEG for a nature analogy?

To answer the question "why" again...

The University does not have the money required to make the move. All the additional revenue received from being a member of the Mt West, PLUS MUCH MORE, would not begin to cover the additional expenses.

Does not matter how you envision the result of this "move up" either as a Boise St or an Idaho move. At present this is not even a remote possibility.
