Question for the Griz fans

Genuine questions for the knowledgeable fans (hoops please don’t start any arguments). What is the difference between the cats and griz. Is it recruiting/evaluation, strength/conditioning, development, coaching, scheme, a combination, or other? Cats lead 7-3 in the last 10 meetings and clearly things are swinging in that direction as of late.

In my opinion I think the way the programs are ran is completely different. Vigen recruits mainly high schools guys and develops them into all-conference guys then fills in gaps with transfers (which has been very successful). BH seems to prioritize transfers year after year as he typically has many players to replace and apparently doesn’t think the younger guys are ready. Bobby and co have been hit or miss with transfers. Wortham, McDowell, Tolbert, Wing, etc. have been fantastic All-American level dudes but then there have been some misses. I think this isn’t the worst strategy as many high level programs do this, but what happens when thing slip and players stop wanting to transfer? Would it be a bad idea to hit the reset button and offer every good high school kid in the region and roll the red carpet out to them in hopes of trying to match what MSU, NDSU, and SDSU do? Is it coaching? The gris straight up have the most talented roster in the FCS yet they can’t seem to climb to the top, but hell neither can the cats.

The difference was 3 points. A couple plays made the difference. 11-1 season. Could be just as close in a few weeks. Griz were in the national championship two seasons ago. I think Cats and Griz are in same boat until one team actually wins the national championship.

Yes it was a close game but we all know how hard it is to win an away brawl game, the cats were never going to run away with it. You can fact check me as I don’t have as much griz knowledge but this might be the most skilled griz offense in a very long time, maybe ever. I think you are lying to yourself if you don’t think one program has hurdled the other in the past decade. Bobby is doing something wrong and if we wants to hurdle the cats something has to change.

The ‘scats have more transfers than you may realize.
Would love to see a comparison for the last couple of years. 2025 starters that transferred within the last few years (without looking it up). Eckert, Lamson, Davis, and Long (could add Meredith). Feel free to fact check. Davis was brought in after Ifanse left, Lamson after Tommy graduated, Long after McCullouch graduated and other Wr transferred, Eckert after Valdez transferred, Meredith after our whole secondary graduated or transferred.

Griz are a very good team still. We might find out again in a few weeks. One thing though in your self righteous post about transfers. Cats don’t win without a transfer QB on his 3rd stop. And btw the song is Mony Mony not Money Money. Money Money is the guy in maroon that will light up Brick Breeden this winter.

I never said the griz aren’t good. They are the 3 seed and I’m not excited to possibly play them again. The griz don’t keep it close without Wortham, multiple OL transfers, Bohannon, Tolbert, Peck, Wing, Otlewski, etc. I have no issues with transfers but it is clear one team relies on transfers and the other has developed high schoolers to create great depth.

Yeah, that's why, Genius, our QB, not yours, is a high-school kid turned starter and yours is a well-traveled portal transfer, and so is our starting RB, who has outperformed both your transfer portal RB and the Preseason Big Sky MVP who has--at least this year based on his preseason accolades--been a flop. !!!

As for the game, we came in having played 12 straight games with no bye, your Shi__y 😸 😸 😸 Kitties had only played 5 or 6 in a row AFTER your bye. Football is kinda brutal and it's unheard of for college, CFL or NFL teams to play 12 consecutive games !!!

In the decade, Cats improved significantly with better coaching and more support and Griz declined after Pflu was fired. Until Bobby returned. It took him a couple years to get rolling again. It had little or nothing to do with the things you mentioned. Those show you don’t understand football or the programs.

One lucky turnover.

And one program has been the only one over the last decade to be able to beat NDSU and SDSU. The other still is punching air trying to make it happen... Does that mean Bobby is doing something right and the Cats are not?

2-5 since 2018 is the tangible difference that everyone can see

I suppose only the admin and closer to the situation know why that is. Self scouting, creeping/slipping expectations, institutional insecurity….something along those lines. We’ve allowed ourselves to let this become the norm.

Chiefs lose to the Bills seemingly every year. Who's the better team over the last decade?

Do I like losing to the bubs? No. But a few more wins doesn't mean their program is substantially better.

both teams are quality and both teams could play each to close games every week....I think this year they are very close in almost every aspect including coaching...I will take our coach and our top 3 offense players any day of the week..I like Montana kids on both sides and hope all have the best games ahead of them regardless if Griz or scats...not sure if I could pick any one kid from the scats to play for the Griz which it would be...probably Taco..simply because he is fun to watch.

Yeah the bills beat the chiefs every regular season, but they don’t care because the chiefs also have 3 Super Bowl wins in 5 appearances (if I recall correctly) in the last 10 or so years…..bills have none.

if we were 2-5 with a few titles I honestly wouldn’t care at all. But we only have one appearance….and yeah we lost it.

So I don’t understand tbe counterpoint

I am open to building the roster either way. These teams are pretty equal.
To me, the Cats are better at their strength program, especially in the trenches.

Unfortunately, their current coach adjusts his schemes, strategies based on the strengths of team personnel. He's much more open to scheme changes. He has round pegs that fit in round holes. I honestly feel, this is currently the biggest factor.
