Well I'm telling you he doesn't give a single shit. He actually wishes he would have taken the baseball scholarship he was offered instead. But anyway, he played back in the old stadium, correct? I want to throw out some blasts from the past when I see him next to see if he'll actually talk about it.

89-92? Nope he played in Washington Grizzly. That stadium was originally built in 1986. However it looked like this back then:

I didn't realize they used to park in the big grass field next to the practice fields? I hear they are considering "subdividing" that area into tailgate plots in the near future. I park and tailgate in the little lot on the west end of that field. I think the current spot holders in Lot M-1 should have first dibs on the tailgate plots in the new area, if they follow thru with that proposal.

No worries. Not going to happen! :thumb:

The reason I'm surprised what was posted about Tony Rice is because I actually met him AT A GRIZ FOOTBALL game, the Sam Houston State game in 2001. Maybe something has happened to cause a rift with Griz football since then, but that day, he sure seemed like a big Griz fan and proud Alumni to me.

Funny thing however all is WA Griz back in 86 was better than many FCS today!

Now who can argue with that? I think we're all indebted to Gabby Johnson for clearly stating what needed to be said. I'm particulary glad that these lovely children were here today to hear that speech. Not only was it authentic frontier gibberish, it expressed a courage little seen in this day and age.

Did you guys consistently pack that place out back then like you do now?

Not exactly. There were big games when the place was packed. The Big Sky was a scary place with Walter Payton candidates/winners and teams like Nevada and Boise playing deep into the playoffs. People showed up for those games, but seating was pretty roomy at other games. I usually sat in the endzone on the grass.

Or sit outside the north end zone with a cold pack of beer and watch through the fence. Did that a few times. We also used to pull the pickup up on the grass at the riverbowl and tailgate our asses off. Didn't have to have a tailgate spot back then. Boy that field would get all tore up when there was some snow or rain. Probably why they don't allow it anymore.

Thanks for the good info. One more question...does anyone have any film of any games he would have played in? Preferably something that I can download or stream?

Thanks again for any help.

Was he any relation to Mike Rice who was named to the All-Big Sky football team as a wide receiver, punter and return specialist in both 1985 and 1986 for the griz?

Holy boomerang.

I wonder how long it took Ang on her inaugural post to dig this thread up.

My coworkers and I were talking about back in the day and we were talking about the Griz and his name came up, so I entered his name and you all came up!!
