Haslam also hired DeCuire, the softball coach, and some others who have been home runs. I don't think you throw the baby out with the bathwater....IMHO.
Agree, but if the downward spiral continues through the rest of the year, he better act and get the next one right. It would help if he took some input, rather than act on his own impulse from a DII candidate telling him what he wants to hear. Haslam is not a football guru, he needs to take and sort knowledgeable input and not rely on his own instincts.

Otherwise, his AD performance gets an A in my book. Scheduling, fund-raising, capital improvements, etc. Smart, impressive persona.

Kem,

I have read his instincts took him to pursue Beau Baldwin...or perhaps he received advice to do so. He was unsuccessful. But, I liked the effort. You?

I'm okay with talking to Baldwin, but does anyone think it was ever even a remote possibility? Why would Baldwin, whose team was on top of the Big Sky, go to a rival school, at presumably similar pay, when he was trending up and in line for bigger and better FBS jobs? Coming to MT would have just bogged him down, and he wouldn't be at Cal now making big bucks and presumably helping his resume for a big head job. Some people I know think the pursuit was a waste of time and spinning wheels, which Baldwin played along with only to get a raise from EWU.
This.

While I don't blame Kent for going after the guy he thought would be the best hire, that whole situation made us look kinda foolish. Baldwin was never coming here.

My understanding is that Baldwin was very interested when Pflu was fired but Haslem decided to hire MD for program continuity and other reasons. Haslem circled back to Baldwin when MD retired, but Baldwin was not interested anymore for multiple reason, including the ones you alluded to.

We all seem to know “did Baldwin”. “Will Baldwin” but the answer is somewhere in between. Based on right from the horses mouth Baldwin had accepted the job Sunday night but Monday morning events made him withdraw. And that’s all.

What's your basis for saying Baldwin was interested when Pflu/O'Day was hired? Engstrom asked the assistant coaches who he should hire. They told him to take a hike. He then reached out to Delaney, who was hired as the interim coach in a day or two. I believe signed a contact several months later, but was any search even done? Do you think Baldwin called Engstrom, or Jean Gee? Doesn't make sense to me, but I don't know.

PR, I know Baldwin was interested when Pflu was fired. I don't know if Haslem really considered anyone outside the program in an effort to move quickly and maintain continuity.

How do you know Baldwin was interested?

I am not going to get into details, but I know for a fact he had interest.
