QB Troubles at Wyoming

Bohl is a top shelf coach. Who or what do the Griz practice for? What do they review? NDSU tapes? Wyoming tapes? I have a real fear that regardless of what our coaches do, they will not be prepared for the Cowboys' schemes. Bohl will have spring and fall practices to find out who can be on the field for his team and do what they are coached to do. I don't see them making many mistakes and I see then taking advantage of Griz mistakes by both players and the HC. The Griz will have to play their best game to be competitive in this one.

Why would Brett Smith declare for the draft early? He will be at the back of the line whenever he goes.

Brett's projected to be the 5th QB taken in the 2nd or 3rd round. Skillset is better than Manziel's. With Hundley and Mariota staying in school his draft stock went up. Scouts, so far, love him.

That said, Brett Smith led Wyoming to an 8-5 record as a true freshman, Austyn Carta-Samuels led Wyoming to a 7-6 record as a true freshman.. new QB doesn't necessarily mean anything.

You just used a QB that transferred to the SEC and led them to a top 25 ranking and a top 5 qb as an underclassmen in the NFL draft as your examples. So, yes, if you get another one of those you'll be fine.

I think Bohl will get the maximum performance out of whoever he has to work with. I'm not so sure we will.

Bohl was 6-5, 3-8, and 9-5 his first three years in the MVC before the run. Bohl is very much a system guy. It might take a little while to get the best out of HIS recruited players, IMO.

I'm gonna guess that the 2nd string QB isn't the only defection from a 5-7 team that lost 5 of it's last 6.

And there's just a SMAAAAAAAAAAALL chance that Wyoming might be looking past the Griz to their next Opponent....Oregon. 8-) 8-) 8-)
Maybe we all should go over to Wyonation.com and get them thinking about Oregon  I know its a fan board but I'll bet players read the board too. I'm just messing around. I wanna see a fair, focused game. And more than that, I would really like to see the Griz pull off an upset!!

I'm wondering if he is "running off" these QBs to get his stuff going asap? I just find it kinda strange that the 2nd string guy leaves when he can likely get the starting job if Smith leaves. Seems like maybe he is getting some help out the door. *This is total speculation* I heard that the reason for the rough seasons in 2008 & 2009 was because of athletes having off the field troubles. Lost a bunch of guys on defense. Something along those lines...

Considering that Bohl and Vigen made in-house visits to Smith in Salem and Thompson in Renton, I doubt he was helping them out the door. Pokes didn't have off-field troubles in those two years, you're thinking of Montana.

The precedent is certainly set.. does lightning strike 3 times?

Sorry, I should have clairified that... 95 mentioned Bohls 6-5 and 3-8 seasons at NDSU.
Me speculations were wrong, i guess, since Coach Bohl is travelling to visit these guys. BuT, does anyone know how the converstions went?

If I'm the Griz I'm sending Kade Rannigs and some other coaches to Wyo's spring scrimmages and fall scrimmages. Also watch the Wyo Nation board for any videos AlphaPoke1 or practice tweets DWahlberg might put up.

Har har, but seriously, if it were me I'm probably sending a few guys to watch his scrimmages.

This game isn't even a speed bump, Weber would put up more of a fight.

Are you saying it's not even a speed bump for Wyoming or UM? I honestly don't know given your awe of Bohl and NDSU.

If I were Wyo's AD, I wouldn't have scheduled the cupcake against Montana...

Vs Hawaii Wyo drew 12,227
Vs Fresno State Wyo drew 15,700

By comparison Montana's "low interest" games

D2 Oklahoma Panhandle State drew 25,014
Portland State drew 25,604

I wanted to go to this game to finally witness an FBS atmosphere but I'm pretty sure you get more of an FBS atmosphere in Missoula...

This isn't the same Griz they beat up on in the 50's and 60's
My gut tells me we lose but we may just have a decent shot.

I wish the Griz would get into a 4-5 year rotation of playing Wyoming, CSU, USU, AFA & Idaho as OOC FBS games. Granted, they wouldn't make much money off most of those...

First of all quit posting stupid sh*t on our board.

Second, I am not a fan of NDSU or Bohl so drop that BS right now. Anyone that can't appreciate what that team is doing knows less about football than you do. I am not in awe I am pissed off because the flagship should be doing what they are, but we are getting worked over in every area possible.

We don't have leaders, vision or commitment to our program the way NDSU does. 10 years ago there was no program to be envious of if you were Montana now there is NDSU and all the rest are a very very distant second place.

Its very sad and I blame most of you for settling for it even though most of you are not smart enough to understand why.

:coffee:

Well... not like it really matters, but I pretty much agree with everything you said. I was just wondering if you were really predicting a win for UM at WY or if you were just doing your ruffling feathers to get a reaction deal. Because it's clear that you understand what is going on with UM and you are smart enough to know that there's no way in hell a Delaney coached UM team goes into WY and beats a Bohl coached team. I don't give a rip about who's QBing either team, who's putting a new scheme in place and needs a couple years to get rolling, or any other hair brained thought about how UM would win that one. Not gonna happen.

It wasn't us that crapped ourselves at the thought of traveling to Fargo to play them to the extent that another option had to be found. The Griz will show up there this year and take on whatever they throw at us. If there's ever a good time to play them, this will be it, but it won't be easy.

We played like sh!t at 7000' Flagstaff last year; Laramie is 7200'. We have a decent shot at beating them, but I don't think we have ever been favored. I'll be there to see whether we go to 1-13 against UW or 0-14. That's tough to take when you live not so far from Wyoming.
