One of fourth downs was a drop by Nacarado of a very catchable ball. Then Brown runs a simple keeper untouched for a 60 yard score.

When you don't have a running game in which you can count on a short gain and have to pass, you live with the percentages - or PUNT.

I agree with some of what you say, but the drop by N wasn't going to be a run no matter what, as that was a passing down. Also, I think UM's run game is a bit better than some of you. Like most of you, I would use Counts in the short yardage situations.
 
A big problem with Nguyen is where they have him set up for the punt return. He was consistently 45 yards behind the line of scrimmage and a couple of times 50 yards back. If they want him to catch the short ones he needs to be set up 40 yards deep or have a second returner cover the short punts.

This is even more important against the rugby style punter that Cal Poly had because they have much shorter kicks in the air and more roll. I am 99% sure the coaches would be telling him where to set up at.

He has fielded many in practices and scrimmages. I didn't see him drop any in the 6 or 8 practices and 2 scrimmages I attended. Maybe Brint did. Others dropped multiple kicks including in scrimmages. Roberts has only caught a few passes. Does your thinking indicate that you wonder if he has good or bad hands? Again, Nguyen had zero lost fumbles in 2014. I don't see certain posters harping about players "who put the ball on the ground" on Saturday. Where's the consistency, or is it just posters with axes to grind? Obviously, the latter.

I have no problem with the decision to go for it on 4th down, but I don't think the play call was worth a heaping pile of crap. I knew Stitt would go for it, he was going to end the game right there. I commented to our group, that if they did not make it, they probably didn't deserve to win.

I think the play call might have been ok, but the execution was bad bad bad. I believe there was a substantially different set of player on the field against poly and it seemed to me that they were less than fully prepared to run the play.

Brady threw himself under the bus on this one. He stated in the Missoulian article on Monday that he thought that they were running out of time on the play clock (not sure how that was going to happen after our timeout) and called for a quick snap when the two blocking backs were resetting. I really think that they were trying to get Cal Poly to jump offsides by moving the two blocking backs.

Meh.....I'm always right on Monday morning on what "should" have happened. Should have punted here. Should have went for it there. Should have deferred to the second half. Should have taken the points. See how easy it is?

Understandable if a 3.5 yard average per attempt and 108 yards a game with no breakaway threat are "a bit better." Really takes the pressure off the passing game; keeps a DC honest.
