Went to the PSU spring game, which had the same attendance as a home game
Here are my observations:
PSU is running with two RBs that rotate. A more punishing and shifty runner and then a more lanky speed back. Of the two in the rotation, #25 is a beast. He embraces his inner Marshawn Lynch. He is the real threat, especially up the middle. #3 is more of a run off the edge kind of back. He is a hybrid WR/RB similar to Travon Van last year, just without the moves. Offensively, the run is where it's at for this PSU team, especially off the edge. PSU's OTs do an excellent job at setting the edge, but they also get routinely beaten by the pass rush coming off the edge.
While there were many positives from PSUs run game, the opposite is true for the passing game. The DL had a consistent push and was always in the QBs face. from QB number two down, they were very skittish and were quick to run. QB number 1 is kind of a high risk high reward type player, often forcing passes or throwing jump balls. Very Vernon Adams like, just without VA's talent and receiver corps. He is also huge and runs like a FB. He is the same guy who fumbled in the end zone in 2013.
Defensively, there weren't many stand outs. The defense flew around, but couldn't make the tackle, couldn't get the angle, misjudged passes, jumped offsides, and was overwhelmingly unaggressive. The biggest collisions were delivered by the RBs, not the LBs or the safeties. Overall I had a very underwhelming impression, especially when they take plays off, which they are prone to do.
Hope that this helps you guys get a picture of what PSU is doing for live tweets and updates check out
