I'm not sure it is as simple as you state it. There are other scenarios where one of the bottom 4, as it stands now, could move into that 6th spot with PSU losing twice more. Sac plays at PSU on Monday. If Sac wins, the Wednesday game will likely be on. If PSU wins, it may not get played. I guess UM will be pulling for PSU. :clap:GrizBall said:Doubt this game happens. Based on tiebreakers, Griz can’t pass Weber for 3rd and ISU can’t pass Griz for 4th. Sac/PSU on Monday. Winner gets a bye, loser doesn’t. If PSU wins and ISU loses on Monday, a PSU victory over the Griz in the Wednesday game would give PSU the 5th seed over ISU, but my guess is that in PSU would accept the 6th seed and not want the travel and the extra game before the tourney.

You are right. I was thinking that another team had a shot at 7 wins. Who ever wins that game sets the 6 seed. I think they would just use the tie breakers to seed 7-10.GrizBall said:oldrunner said:I'm not sure it is as simple as you state it. I am pretty sure I am correct. UNC and NAU can finish no better than 6-12. Idaho can finish no better than 5-13. They are already locked into the first day because the winner of PSU/SAC would have 7 wins.
If Sac wins, they would be 7-11 and PSU would be 6-11. Even if PSU would beat Montana they would also be 7-11 but Sac would then own the tie break by having beaten PSU twice. Under this scenario there is no reason to play the Montana game because PSU would be locked in the first day regardless.
If PSU wins, they have 7 wins and Sac is done at 6-12. Meaning SAC, NAU, UI and UNC are the bottom 4. If ISU loses on Monday they would be done at 8-10. PSU could in theory beat Montana, finish 8-10 and have the tiebreak by have beaten ISU twice and finish 5th. My guess is PSU wouldn’t want to travel to Montana for this possibility when they would have already secured not playing on the first day.
So in theory, a PSU/Montana game could determine some seed shuffling in the 7-10 spots, but they all would be playing on the first day anyways. Not sure you send PSU to Montana for that.
Also, a PSU/Montana game could result in both ISU and Montana finishing 9-9, but Montana owns the tiebreak. Montana is locked in the 4 spot regardless what happens the rest of the season. It could also result in Montana tying Weber but Weber owns the tiebreak because they defeated a higher seed in MSU.

That is nice to here. I've been critical of his abilities, but I never questioned his attitude. I know he's trying his best and don't doubt that he is a quality dude.

The Hornets' win moved them into sixth place in the final Big Sky Conference standings while the Vikings moved from sixth to seventh. That means PSU (12-18, 6-11) will have to play a first-round game in the Big Sky Conference Tournament this Saturday against eighth-seed Northern Colorado (11-19, 6-12). That game will tip off at 7 p.m. PT and can be seen on ESPN+. Portland State will not play a makeup game with Montana from last week's postponement because it will not affect the final matchups in the tournament.
You're exactly right. This guy was up in the night. I didn't post it because I believed him. Just thought it was interesting to see his disjointed thinking. :thumb:GrizBall said:oldrunner said:https://twitter.com/jackmarshalliii/status/1630241786475204609?cxt=HHwWgsDSzY6R5J8tAAAA
So in other words, this was 100% incorrect. I spelled it out earlier in this thread. There was going to be no game because you would know the Day 1 teams and who got byes after the Monday games. They were never going to send PSU to Montana make sure 7-10 was seeded correctly.
