Prospect X

13 NFL coaches at X’s pro day. 13 at MSU’s too. Had been away for several months and not been home. Mellott worked out in Florida. Has to be Mellott.

Did Mellott have 12 high school letters?
It looks like he did. AMAZING ! "That came after he became just the second boy at Butte High School to earn 12 varsity letters. He led the Bulldogs to the 2019 Class AA state championship football game. In addition to lettering four years in football, Tommy letter four times in basketball and track."

Well, then it is definitely Mellott.

Can someone explain to me why Tommy, being from Butte America, was not recruited by the Griz
Was he not recruited by Griz?

Looks like Griz took no. 1 prospect in State that year, a qb. https://247sports.com/season/2020-f...ankings/?InstitutionGroup=highschool&State=mt

"When Mellott chose to attend MSU, education was at the forefront of his decision-making process. “Academics were always a big thing for me in high school, and I ultimately knew that once the five years, four-and-a-half, whatever it might be in college are up, the most likely situation would be to go out and find a job,” he said.

As Mellott was making his college decision, he found similarities between MSU’s coaching staff at the time — namely former coaches Jeff Choate and B.J. Roberston — and the coaching at Butte High School. Mellott said that, after meeting the coaches and considering his academic options, he felt like it would be a clean transition from Butte High School to MSU."

I'm sure he was recruited by the Griz but, according to the article, he had to send out tapes to colleges to jump start his recruiting. I would think with all of the former player connections we have with Butte America, that we would be first on a player like Tommy. His effort to be recruited, reminds me of the story of Dallas Neil sending a mannequin leg to NFL teams to get on their radar as a punter.

"It's obvious we should've recruited [insert standout underrecruited cats player from MT here] much more than we did"

I assume the NFL is taking him as a QB either.
I think the NFL is looking @ TM the same way they looked @ GRIZ great Marc Mariani: slot receiver plus KR and/or PR.

At 6-0 on his tippy toes, TM is short for an NFL QB, but short stature didn't stop Drew Brees or Russell Wilson, either !!!

Now that we won't ever face TM again, unless he returns as a Sh___y Kitty coach, I wish him well and hope he has a long, healthy, prolific NFL career !!!

Due to durability concerns re: TM, I see him as a late round ( 4th-7th ) pickup, possibly as a free agent, and while I don't think he winds up north of the border, the CFL is still a possibility.

I should have said 4th-6th round as I don't believe there is a 7th round anymore.

He will NEVER be an NFL QB. They don't run that type of offense and they don't like QB's that throw the ball up for grabs and hope their receiver outjumps the defender.
