Pressure

Activities at which Jake Browning feels more pressure than from our DLine:

-- clipping his toenails.

-- toasting a bagel.

-- choosing whether to use Firefox or chrome

-- replacing the AA batteries (from Costco, always Costco) in his tv remote.

-- Walking the dog.

Lighten up, AZFrancis.

One, it's a freakin message board. Two, after witnessing a 63-7 ass whoopin, I enjoy a little levity for sanity's sake. Three, it's a freakin message board. Four, my post is accurate: our DLine was terrible. Five, pointing that out doesn't make me a bad fan. Six, it's a freakin message board.

OK, Richard Pryor. You're such a funny guy, can't believe I didn't get the sarcasm in that post.

Exactly how many times would Browning have to been chased out of the pocket for you to not feel the need to post that drivel?

Our DL is the teams biggest weakness
No way our DL was ever going to hold up against the UW O-line.

UW starters:
6'8 327#
6'4 321#
6'4 299#
6'1 293#
6'7 318#

2nd team
6'7 313#
6'5 312#
6'5 276#
6'6 300#
6'8 327#

Then factor in those players practice against 340# Vita Vae, 3 other +300# D-lineman and a pair of +280# D-ends on a daily basis. It's safe to say Vae is the best D-lineman any Griz team has faced other than Haloti Ngata at Oregon.

in the two games played, it is my opinion the d-line may not be what we thought they could be....davidson back, the kid from maryland, shye, the depth we supposedly have ???? i think we need to see better out of them to be successful.....

Yeah, but they didn't look that good against Valparaiso.

Any one know how many times we rushed more than 4? I didn't get to see the game, but only remember one instance the announcers mentioned a Blitzer. It was evident rushing 4 gave him too much time for secondary to stand a chance

Agreed, maybe it is just me but I am not seeing any techniques other than simple bull rushing. They are attacking the whole body instead of half the man and I have yet to see any significant hand-fighting moves, spins, swims, rips, etc...

I watched some high school games last Friday and noticed more diversity in d-line techniques in the first 20 minutes than I have seen in the last 2 Griz games.

So cowboy, do you think they dont know any of the techniques that you were seeing in high school games or they arent being stressed and they are forgetting to use them or something else? I would certainly think they know them as they made it to a D1 school and I certainly think the coaches know them and would be teaching these guys how to beat the o lineman. Any thoughts as to what might be happening? Anybody?

One of the missing elements from years past is a Tyronne, Zack, or insert your favorite former Griz pass rusher here. Until one emerges to take over the mantle, Semore's going to decide between getting beaten deep or manufacturing pressure. Unlike last season, it appears this group can play a little zone so there's that. By the way Duquesne didn't blow Valpo off their field this weekend - they won by five.

Even if they beat SavState by five scores, I don't think you'll know any more about what your going to be seeing on the field this season. Two of the first three will have gone as expected, & WEWU will be next up on the newly & nearly paid for rug. I don't think you'll know much of anything of significance until they take the field against the fighting Barneys. What you do know now - QB play & leadership is significantly better than last season - and not based on current statistics, the punter looks good, JLM picked up where he left off, and the O-line's not the liability it was last season. Everything else is about the same as it was to slightly worse as of now. Not to say it won't get better - only time this season will tell.

Seems to me that if they are going to get beat anyways, wouldn't it make sense to at least send different blitz packages to try and confuse the other team's o-line/qb? Any pressure that causes an incompletion is better than rushing 4 and watching the other 7 in "coverage" still get beat.

Did you catch any of last season from the NAU game on? When the BSC teams picked up on the blitzing confusion you suggest & started adding blockers - the island corners got torched. Mixing in pressure from the backside seven is fine when it isn't the foundational basis for your scheme, as it was to start last season. Semore neglected to have a backup - teaching them to play zone, and it cost them.

I more optimistic about the defensive chances this year because of the offense. The QB can play, the O-line is better & as they progress, the running game will get better. They're likely to be on the field longer because the 3rd down pass isn't going to get sailed over the receivers head. All they have to do is catch the ball.
