Pre-Season National Champs

Kitties have been pre-season national champs at least going on 20 years in a row. A broken clock is right twice a day. Will they be pre-season champs again next year? Asking for a friend!

It wouldn't shock me at all if NDSU is still voted #1 in the preseason next year. They lost in the 2nd round in a game they were dominated statistically and still got voted 4th overall.

Ndsu was by far the best team in the FCS and they should be right back there again next season. Ndsu would have beat MSU by double digits again like they did last time and the time before that and the time before that

If you’re going to talk shit, at least use facts you blowhard.

The last 2 NDSU victories over MSU were by a combined 4 points (35-32 in Frisco last year and 35-34 in 2023).

I expect better, but I shouldn’t. It’s less fun to engage in shit talk when the other side is so far behind that they think they’re ahead.

I think the preseason #1 will be MSU or NDSU. The preseason polls are worthless though. If the Griz win in Bozeman they should be ranked in the top 2 at the end of the regular season, which matters more than the preseason.

How many posts about MSU is this board planning to make this week? Do you even still have a team anymore to discuss or are you all too obsessed over which MSU players will enter the portal?

Agreed. I dislike preseason rankings.

Preseason state champs and conference champs for certain. Possibly national champions too. Likely it's NDSU tho.

Do you think it is a coincidence that both programs that could be preseason #1 are built and ran the same way? Which base defense do both of them use? The same 4-2-5. What is their offensive philosophy? Both emphasize the run game, use heavy personnel, are built around physical offensive lines, lean on play action and boot concepts and are built around controlling tempo and possession. How do they both build their rosters? Developing high school players. There are a lot of similarities.

Depends on how much the top four lose in the portal. ISU loses a lot of seniors, including their stud QB. NDSU has had many impactful portal losses. MSU has lost a lot and will lose more. If MSU loses their QB, I cannot see them ranked #1. UM has lost a lot and will lose more. SDSU loses their QB but has only had one portal entry. This next season will be fun.
