Pre game is just a bonus....i have always loved the "HEY HEY" chant to the kid rock song....but in all reality...i get jacked up for THE GAME regardless of what goes on for pregame and it should be no different for anybody else....come on people, who cares abotu pre game...Griz run out of the tunnel..we all go NUTZ! what else do we need...I go there to see the griz pound their opponent for 60 minuest and VERY VERY rarely am i disapointed. GO GRIZ!
just FYI i did really enjoy when they did the replay of Mick on the raido doing his touchdown montana call...but i dont think i have seen that since like 04...maybe 05...

I've had a lot of thoughts and disappointment in the pre-game over the last four or five years, but when you actually look at what's done, then it's kind of hard to totally just be hyper-critical..
Here's how the official pre-game works. (The Skydivers are actually BEFORE the "official pre-game show is announced so I'm not counting them as part of it)... Feel free to post alternative ideas.
20 minutes is put on the clock right after the Griz leave the field and return to the lockerroom.
Right away, the marching band performs about two songs, then the state song, then the school song. Then lines up for the tunnel run which is still about 13 minutes away at that point. Should that performance be replaced by something else?
Next comes what ever promotion day that is. South Dakota was parents day. There are several more throughout the season. Should those ceremonies, including breast cancer awareness day, ect..be moved to another portion of the pre-game, when even less people are inside the stadium? Traditionally, with 13 minutes on the clock, the stadium is not yet half full.
Next comes the national anthem. This has been hit or miss over the years. Seems like it's been more just the band and less being sung over the years. I would think in Missoula, there would be some pretty good people to sing it once in a while. But it's a part of the pre-game that obviously can't be changed.
Next comes Monte's entrance. (I hate Moe so I'll leave him completely out and would be glad if he was given his walking papers.) This is a big bone of contention for fans as of late. I agree, his entrance, the music and EVERYTHING about this portion of the pre-game is stale and worthless. Even in the hyped-up playoff games, this part inspires little or no crowd reaction. Monte's entrance used to be something of pride and excitement, and has even made Sportscenter's intro. The 1994 game against Idaho, Monte was shown on Sportscenter's opening montage dragging a Vandal dummy behind the four wheeler. No one will get any argument from on changing that routine completely and if the powers that be can't see how uninspired the crowd is by Monte's entrance then they are either deaf and blind or just don't give a rats ass because they are getting money to let people drive him in in whatever car or hummer o horse or snowmobile or segway or whatever the hell else he comes on in these days. A caution though, alot of people have suggested he should have been jumped in once in a while with the skydivers. I totally agree, but remember, when the skydivers were jumping every game, they were coming in way before the pre-game even started. On top of that, I have been told it's a legality issue to actually allow the student to even tandem-jump with the silver-tips which then I suggested one of the silver-tip wear the suit when jumping. However, I was told the head is another FAA legality issue. I have no idea how other schools get around it because I've seen the mascot parachute in at several FBS games over the years.
Following Monte is the tunnel run video. Again, a bone of contention. The "we are Griz nation" song was cool for the first year it was used, but I think UM has hung its hat on that crappy song for way toooo long. But my biggest problem is, that UM considers it's game-day traditions to be on par with all FBS schools. The video is not even close, in that, major schools have a tunnel run video for EVERY home game. The vids are taylor made to be something about that game's opponent. Texas does the same video on their Zillatron each home game, but Bevo is stampeding over that week's mascot in each video. I've seen at Nebraska where they change ti every home game too, as I'm sure many other schools do. I'm fine with it staying the same, but I don't really want to hear from the UM anymore how it's on par with FBS programs, because it's not. And at this point in time, neither is Griz Vision. The screen is old and needs to go IF the university wants to be on par like they say they are.
I wouldn't change anything with the tunnel run. I personally like Bring Em' out and while I've seen a few other schools do it, UM was using it the year that song actually came out. The Helmet, the smoke and the run-out are totally fine and that's the one time anymore that the crowd gets amped. I'll NEVER forget the very first time UM used smoke, again, the 1994 Idaho game. My buddy at the time was being a dick and cheering for Idaho just to be a punk, but when the Griz ran out of smoke for the first time, he immediately changed his mind because he is a huge Miami fan and back then the Canes' were about the only team running out of smoke. Yes, everyone does it now, but it's still something that is memorable EVERY single home game.
So there's the basic pre-game schedule each week. Suggest away.

the HEY HEY kid rock chant didn't happen last week and i could do with or with out that, tunnel run is pretty cool. I don't mind the running out through the smoke, a few years ago they shot some fireworks off...i think it was Griz/cat? then the NIU game at night. Monte use to be a fun entrance up until he dumped the bike and then they have gone straight vanilla....could do without Mo....what a waste of time and money. Montana<--- --->Grizzlies was a pretty cool chant as the other team enters!!!
SIDE NOTE: Does anyone remember when they use to try and have a Griz roar over the PA?

Monte has got to get more involved with the crowd. He can get the crowd going with a little effort. His jumping into the goal post is really old and dead! Messing around with the officials, jumping into the crowd, leading a cheer, etc... He does none of this anymore...boring team mascot in my opinion.

HEy wassup egriz!!! im a new poster. i like most of the pre game stuff but i think they could use a few new songs cuz most of them are pretty old to be honest. That metallica song is ancient and the 'We come to the Jungle' song or whatever its called is so annoying. :evil: The players would def appreciate some newer stuff while their warming up but i dont know what exactly. i always used these two songs on my ipod for basketball 'we knockin heads off" by lil jon and 'Anty up' by MOP. Never failed to get me pumped for the game :clap:

I honestly think that if we want a better pregame, why not start with what we can actually do. I really think that the pregame "Montana Grizzlies" chant needs to be a new tradition as the visiting team runs on the field. It was great during the UNI game, and will be great for every game. The student section tried to get it going for the first game, but was unable to get the west side to join in. The more we do it, the more people will expect the chant to happen and it will become a requirement for Griz games.

Since all the kids like rap I think we should play some more songs by the Fort Belknap Boyz, I heard they have a hit song coming out soon, called "Make dem Squaw's bounce."
