Practice facility

Ever been in TX in August?
More so it seems strange that the University of Montana is struggling to afford 1 new permanent indoor facility whereas Keller ISD in Keller Texas for example built 4 indoor facilities in the last 2 years and is currently facing a major budget shortfall around $30m but they still find ways to spend for their mediocre at best football programs.

It's also located in an extremely affluent area that gets lots of big donations, has a 10K capacity stadium and sells a $hit ton of season tickets...
Carroll ISD sure but Keller ISD outside of Keller High, Northwest ISD outside of Byron Nelson, Eagle Mountain/Saginaw ISD are not extremely affluent and all have built indoor facilities recently.

It’s wild how high schools in Texas like Southlake Carroll got a permanent indoor facility before both D1 Montana college teams.

Amazing what you can do with additional taxes and government funding to supplement bonds specifically earmarked for stadiums/practice facilities.

Lived in Texas a long time now and every school bond vote attached to almost anything sports related seems to pass with ease. I've watched 65 Million $ stadiums built within 5 miles of 55 Million $ stadiums (McKinney ISD/Allen ISD) and the community doesn't even bat an eye! Many of the athletes at these schools in Texas take a significant downgrade in facilities when they go off and play in college...thats particularly true for lots that go on and play at FCS schools...

Even at the lower levels of FBS it is a struggle for a lot of guys downgrading from the environment at big high schools in Texas. Maxx Crosby has said he would have twice as many fans at his games for Colleyville Heritage as Eastern Michigan. Thankfully for Montana we do have a very good game day environment for the players, probably the best of the FCS.

Not probably. We have the best game day environment by far.
Montana is one of a few that would give a similar or better game day environment than the bottom of the FBS. Montana State and NDSU both have lots of fans right now with the programs being successful. Not sure if anyone else besides Montana, MSU and NDSU would be in that category.

The top high school teams in Texas will have 15,000 fans at games. How many FCS teams outdrew 15,000 attendance this year? That would be a good place to start with best FCS gameday environments.

In most cases facilities can be built much more quickly if they are built with the taxpayers' dime rather than with private donations--it takes time for private fundraising, as we know from our indoor practice field and the Washington Champion's Center.

Did they have, or are going to have an open house? Would be nice for al ook/see!
They have had a few open houses etc, but I'm sure sundberg or haslam would give a tour anytime if you inquire! I actually missed the qb club tour and others, so I haven't been inside yet. I plan to swing by for a spring practice or two.

I'd even say that Montana's gameday atmosphere beats out just about every g5 team, save a few like the Boise States. There's a reason why Montana's stadium atmosphere is regarded as one of the best in all of college football. I mean, when you have the 10th-loudest stadium in all of college football by decibels (we beat out Michigan's 100k fans), that puts us squarely better than most in the FBS's G5.

If only decibels equaled dollars! ;)

Break out you wool GRIZ cap, insulated Carhart overalls and Muck boots, down parka and Eskimo mittens, Texas--we don't want you succumbing to hypothermia !!!

I did just did buy some "Artic Mucks" that are supposed to keep the feet warm down to -60, and they have these high-speed, low-drag Vibram soles designed not to slip on the ice and treated with a patented Honeywell coating so this soul doesn't fall on my butt. I am skeptical but so far I haven't bit the dust. If I do, I'll save them for wearing inside our bubble in Missoula.

It was -9 this morning l, now O and snowing in Billings, Texas, and wearing my North Pole Mucks, it's time to go shovel--again, but don't feel at all guilty basking in the warm Texas sun while we are In danger of freezing to death in Montana, Texas--somehow, we will make it, God willing !!!
